NEW LONDON, New Hampshire - Britt Mellor tallied two goals and one assist, as Husson won its North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener Saturday with a 7-2 triumph over Colby-Sawyer (N.H.) at Sally Shaw Veitch Field. The Eagles improve to 5-0 all-time against the Chargers.
Husson (2-5, 1-0 NAC) wins its eighth-straight game (including playoffs) against a league foe.
Mellor gave the Eagles a 1-0 edge just 1:33 into the game with an assist by Lauren Russell. Libby Kain (1) struck 39 seconds later to make the score 2-0.
Paige Viens (5) cut the Colby-Sawyer (5-4, 0-1 NAC) deficit in half in the third minute with aid from Jordan Teixeira. Mellor (3), with an assist by Mikayla Toth, and Allyson Mullen (3), with aid by Viens, traded goals in the sixth and 21st minutes, respectively, before the Eagles pulled away with four-unanswered scores.
Lauren Russell (3) doubled the Husson advantage in the 36th minute.
Hanna Jordan (2), in the 44th minute, Toth (2), in the 58th minute, and Taylor Shaw (1), in the 59th minute, all scored after intermission for the final tally. Mellor and Toth assisted on Jordan's and Shaw's goals, respectively.
Toth finished with a goal and two assists.
Goalkeeper Kaitlin Dolloff (2-3) played the first half and earned the win. Anne Marie Provencal made one save in the final 35 minutes.
Goalkeeper Jodi Dumayne (4-4) made nine saves in the loss.
Husson outshot Colby-Sawyer 21-5 and held an edge in penalty corners 13-3.
The Eagles host Maine-Farmington on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 5:30 p.m. ET.
