CASTINE, Maine – Tori Cooper (Saco, Maine) netted a hat-trick on Sunday afternoon, lifting Maine Maritime Academy to a 4-0 victory over Maine-Presque Isle in non-conference action.
Cooper opened up the scoring for the Mariners in the 5th minute when she dribbled around a defender and snuck the ball in the right corner, past Owl keeper Allie Lopez.
On a corner kick in the 22nd minute Cooper passed a corner kick to Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) who then curled her shot into the center of the net, over Lopez.
In the 27th minute, Emily Wyman (Brockton, Mass.) passed a ball ahead to Cooper in the left corner. Cooper kicked a booming ball into the top right corner of the net to extend the Maine Maritime Academy lead to 3-0.
Early in the second half Kylie Bradley (Westborough, Mass.) connected with Cooper on a corner kick to make it 4-0.
Cooper ended the afternoon with a career-high seven points, with three goals and one assist.
Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) stopped the one shot she faced in net, grabbing a shutout for the Mariners while Lopez ended with 13 stops in the loss for the Owls.
The Mariners, who improve to 2-5-1 overall, resume North Atlantic Conference play next Saturday, October 3, when they host Lyndon State at 4:00 p.m. on Ritchie Field.
