Town of Gray Awarded MMA Grant for Safety Equipment

Gray, Maine - The Town of Gray has been awarded a $3,000 safety grant by the Maine Municipal Association (MMA) Workers’ Compensation Fund, which will be used to purchase a key piece of equipment for our Facilities and Parks Department.

The Ed MacDonald Safety Grants and Scholarships provide financial assistance to members of

the MMA Workers’ Compensation Fund to purchase safety equipment or services to reduce the frequency and severity of workplace injuries. The reduction in employee injuries also benefits taxpayers by lessening lost hours at work, the cost of claims, and potential overtime expenses for employees who might have to fill in for injured co-workers.

The Facilities and Parks Department will be purchasing a SawStop Cabinet Table Saw, which will be used for various projects.

“This equipment will help our team work more safely and confidently when completing projects for the community,” said Facilities and Parks Director Mo Russo. “We’re grateful for the support from MMA, and this grant will help us make an important investment in workplace safety.”

Since 1999, the program has awarded more than $7.1 million through 4,700 safety grants and 580 scholarships to help prevent workplace injuries.
