Musician Spotlight: In Layman Terms Interview

From Virginia comes two really talented blues singers by the names of Cole (17) and Logan (14) from the brother/sister band 'In Layman Terms'.  Logan has an unbelievable voice for someone of her age and can play guitar. Cole, the other half of 'In Layman Terms, like his sister, is a great guitar player and singer.

Earlier in July that took the side stage at the 2014 North Atlantic Blues Festival in Rockland, Maine where they wowed the crowd. It was great to meet Cole, Logan and their parents.

Recently, we had the honor to interview these two singers , here is what they had to say.

Are there challenges being in school and pursuing a singing career?  YES!  It is really difficult to travel and miss school and keep up with everything.  We do most of our traveling during the summers.  Our mom is a teacher, so she is off all summer and devotes it to us.  We really have to pick and choose what we do during the school year so that we don’t miss too much school…. Some gigs are just too good to turn down!  Our high school is very supportive of us and we always

Classic road race, founded by Joan Benoit Samuelson, focusing attention on Rippleffect, a Maine non-profit youth development organization leading outdoor adventure programs

CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine – Two of America’s most decorated distance runners – Olympic medalists Meb Keflezighi and Shalane Flanagan – headline a field of talented world-class athletes who will join top runners in Maine and across New England in Cape Elizabeth on Saturday (Aug. 2) for the 17th TD Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race.

Thousands of recreational runners will follow the front-of-the-pack athletes along the scenic TD Beach to Beacon course, cheered on by thousands of spectators who line the coastal route to support this now classic American summer road race that celebrates health, fitness and giving back.

The beneficiary of this year’s race is Rippleffect (www.rippleffect.net), a Portland-based non-profit youth and community development organization leading outdoor adventure programs on Cow Island, in area schools and in the mountains of western Maine. The organization receives a check for $30,000 from the TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank® and further benefits from fundraising activities and publicity through its association with the race.

Title sponsor TD Bank has now donated $510,000 over the history of the race to Maine charities. The race’s other corporate partners are Nike, Hannaford, Poland Spring, MaineHealth, Fairchild Semiconductor, IDEXX, Northeast Delta Dental, WCSH6, Dead River Company and Olympia Sports.

“The TD Beach to Beacon 10K continues to be a positive, life-changing force for so many people, year after year. We remain honored to have supported this event from the beginning and appreciate that it has been embraced by so many people,” said Larry Wold, TD Bank President for Maine, who is one of 130 runners who has run every race. “This year’s beneficiary, Rippleffect, is a hands-on, innovative leadership and confidence-building organization that is strengthening our communities – a perfect fit for what this race represents.”

Portland Does It All in 2-0 Win Over Reading

Augliera goes eight scoreless, Swihart and Chester hit solo shots in win
Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs (69-40) opened the series with some pop and outstanding pitching, taking down the Reading Fightin Phils (44-62) 2-0, Monday night at Hadlock Field. The win sends Portland to a 11-4 record against Reading and a 36-15 record at home.

Mike Augliera was the story on the night for the Sea Dogs as the righty trotted out for his 20th start, and it may have been his best. Augliera (5-9) retired the side in order over the first three innings and dismissed the first 10 in a row, before Albert Cartwright broke up the stretch with a single to center.

Along with the single came the rain, as Mother Nature stepped in and delayed the game for one hour and twenty minutes.

Once play resumed, Augliera returned and needed two pitches to get Kelly Dugan to ground into an inning
