BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates volleyball team went 1-1 in a pair of
non-conference matches at Bowdoin College on Saturday, defeating
Worcester State 3-1 (20-25, 25-17, 30-28, 25-22) in the morning before
dropping a 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-12) decision to the host Polar Bears in
the afternoon.
Bates (5-6) and Bowdoin (6-3) will play their NESCAC match at Bates on October 31.
Bates junior Chandler McGrath (Seal Beach, Calif.) had 16 kills with three errors on 49 attempts (.265) in the win over Worcester State. First-year Claire Naughton (Darien, Conn.) posted nine kills with three errors on 17 attempts (.353), while sophomore Lisa Slivken (New York, N.Y.) and junior Nicole Peraica (East Northport, N.Y.) submitted identical lines of eight kills and two errors on 19 attempts (.316) apiece. Senior Laryssa Schepel (Flemington, N.J.) and sophomore Augy Silver (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) paced the back line with 23 and 13 digs, respectively, while sophomore Jacqueline Forney (Bloomington, Ind.) and junior Hannah Tardie (Orange, Calif.) posted 27 and 21 assists, respectively. Naughton also had four blocks, complementing first-year Reilly Murphy's (Marshfield, Mass.) five blocks.
Meghan Deighan had eight blocks and six kills for the Lancers. Emily Carens had 11 kills and Jennifer Cabral added nine.
In the loss to Bowdoin, McGrath led the Bobcats with nine kills, adding eight digs. Senior Brynn Wendel
(Boxford, Mass.), Slivken and Peraica added four kills apiece and
Tardie had a team-high 10 assists. Christy Jewett had 15 kills and Erika
Sklaver added 13 on 23 attempts (.522) for Bowdoin, as Quincy Leech
handed out 34 assists.
Bates travels to play at Williams on Friday, Oct. 2 at 8pm, followed the next day by a 2pm match at Amherst.
