WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's soccer team defeated Colby
College 3-2 in overtime on Monday night in a non-conference road
contest. DJ Nicholas scored the game winning goal with one minute remaining in overtime.
Thomas opened the scoring early in the first half. Willie Clemons tapped a through ball from Nicholas past Colby goalkeeper Dan Carlson in the sixth minute to give the Terriers the 1-0 lead.
Colby took the lead in the 29th minute on back-to-back goals within two minutes to put the Mules up 2-1.
Late in the second half, Tre Ming
sent a ball into the box to a streaking Clemmons who beat the Colby
defenders and redirected it into the back of the net to tie the score at
two and send the game to overtime.
Nicholas' game winning goal came off a scramble in front of the where
a Colby defender attempted to clear, but Nicholas was able to control
the ball and drive it into the net to give the Terriers the 3-2 win.
Joakim Sternas started the game for the Terriers, making five saves, before being replaced by Jonathan Dutka in the 60th
minute due to Injury. Dutka made three saves and earned his first
collegiate win. Carlson made seven saves in the loss for the Mules.
The Terriers will travel to New England College on Saturday, October 3 for a North Atlantic Conference game at 12:00 pm.
