Jaguar to be featured at celebration of foreign autos; vehicles of all marques welcome to exhibit

Owls Head, Maine - More than 100 antique automobiles from around the world are expected to rally at the Owls Head Transportation Museum Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6 for the Museum’s annual Foreign Auto Festival and Antique Aeroplane Show.

While a diverse range of stunning vehicles is expected at the event, this year the Owls Head Transportation Museum is celebrating Jaguars as the featured marque of the Foreign Auto Festival. Owners of pre-1993 foreign automobiles and all Jaguar owners—regardless of year—are invited to exhibit their vehicles free of charge.

Exhibitor gates open at 8:30 a.m., and gates open to the public at 9:00 a.m.

This annual event attracts foreign car enthusiasts from all over the state—from luxury sedans to the high-performance sports cars. The variety can be impressive: Austin Healey, MG, Triumph, Porsche, Ferrari, Citroën, Mercedes, BMW, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Jaguar, Volkswagen and more. The meet draws a large number of Japanese models as well.

Members of the Down East Porsche Club and Mid Maine Sports Car Club are expected to attend, and featured display cars will include a 1930 Bentley Speed 6 and a 1955 Jaguar XK140. Jaguar Scarborough will be at the Museum on Saturday, October 5 to showcase and discuss new model Jaguars including the new Jaguar F-Type, which will be on hand for museum guests to see.

On both days of the show Owls Head Transportation Museum Aircraft Conservator Karl Erickson and our team of dedicated aviation workshop volunteers and pilots will demonstrate the Museum’s unrivalled collection of antique aircraft. The most recent addition to our aircraft collection, the last surviving 1930 Pitcairn PA-7S Sport Mailwing, will take to the skies, and additional planes that may fly for demonstrations include the Museum’s 1941 Stearman, our 1933 Waco, our 1916 Sopwith Pup, our 1923 Fokker C.IV and our beloved 1917 Fokker DR.I triplane (aka the Red Baron). Our open flightline, also scheduled for both days of the event, provides an opportunity for visitors to see, hear and experience the planes close up and visit with our pilots.

Rain or shine, visitors will have access to the Museum’s indoor collection featuring dozens of rare antique cars, motorcycles and aeroplanes. Guests will also have an opportunity to view the Museum’s exhibition, MGs & Microcars, showcasing a unique collection of more than 25 MGs and small cars from the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s.
Admission is $12 for adults and, as always, children under 18 are admitted to the Museum and show free of charge. Refreshments catered by French & Brawn Catering and Market Place will be available for purchase at the Caboose during both days of the show. No pets are allowed in the Museum or on show grounds.

Any visitor who renews their membership or purchases a new membership on the day of an event is automatically entered in a drawing for a scenic ride in the Museum’s 1941 Stearman biplane. One winner is drawn at noon and one at 3:00 p.m. each day of the event.

The Owls Head Transportation Museum is located at 117 Museum Street in Owls Head, Maine, directly off of Route 73. The Museum is open seven days a week, year round. For more information please contact Owls Head Transportation Museum Public Relations Director Jenna Lookner at (207) 594-4418.

Governor LePage Issues Food Drive Challenge to Maine Chambers of Commerce

As part of the Third Annual Blaine House Food Drive, Governor encourages statewide participation
Augusta, Maine - Governor Paul R. LePage has issued a Food Drive Challenge to Maine Chambers of Commerce. In a letter issued last week to Maine chambers, Governor LePage encouraged participation in a local food drive throughout the month of October

Chambers that participate will have a chance to host a “Business After Hours” event at the Blaine House.

“As our holiday season approaches, it is very important that we remember those who are less fortunate,” said Governor LePage. “The First Lady and I will be hosting Blaine House food drives, but I am encouraging local chambers to get involved and help out their local food pantries or homeless shelters.”

The Governor and First Lady request each chamber submit an itemized list of products donated, as well as contact information for the organization receiving the donation. Donations are to be collected and donated for the challenge between Oct. 1 and Oct. 31. Participating chambers will be entered into a raffle to host a “Business After Hours” event at the Blaine House with the Governor and First Lady and senior officials in the LePage Administration.

By including Chambers of Commerce throughout Maine, the First Family hopes to bring more awareness around the goodness of giving within Maine communities.

“We are a small state with big hearts,” said First Lady Ann LePage. “In our family, we have taught our children that giving is more important than receiving. Giving money is great, but giving your time is just as valuable. So we encourage Mainers to consider volunteering at a shelter, food pantry or soup kitchen. It’s a great gift to give.”

The First Family is hosting the Third Annual Blaine House Food Drive on three consecutive Saturdays during the month of October: Oct. 12, Oct. 19 and Oct.26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mainers will have an opportunity to bring a food donation, receive a tour of the Blaine House led by Governor LePage and enjoy light refreshments.
