LaVerghetta leads women's golf to 10th place at Mt. Holyoke Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Senior Elizabeth LaVerghetta led the Bates women's golf team on both days of the Mount Holyoke Invitational, leading the Bobcats to a 10th-place finish out of 14 teams Sunday at The Orchards Golf Course.

Bates' result is an improvement from last year, when the team placed 14th out of 15 teams. The Bobcats' four-player, two-day combined score of 748 edged 11th-place Wellesley (752) by four strokes, and trailed ninth-place Union (720) by 28. Williams won the tournament at 605.

LaVerghetta (Norton, Mass.) shot a 12-over-par 84 on Sunday, following up on her 89 on Saturday, to place 32nd among 83 players overall.

Junior Sarah Centanni (Hingham, Mass.) shot a 188 over two days to tie for 55th place, second for Bates. Sophomore Kelly Wassarman (Middleton, Wis.) tied for 57th place at 191, and junior Emily Plotnikov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) shot a 196 for 62nd place.

Bates next competes at the Middlebury Invitational, Oct. 3-4 at Ralph Myrhe Golf Course in Middlebury, Vt.
