The Grand Presents the Best Recent Movies With Its “CineGrand” Film Series in August!

Ellsworth, Maine - The Grand’s Weekly CineGrand series– a series of the best of recent films- continues its Summer season on Tuesday 8/14 at its regular time of 7:30 pm. Tickets for all CineGrand screenings are General Admission and are priced as follows: $8 for Adults, $7 for Seniors/Students (15 and under) and $6 for Grand Members. See these great films the way the directors made them to be seen- through a state-of-the-art digital projection system- on the giant Coastal Eye Care screen. See it any other way... and it wouldn't be Grand! The August CineGrand titles are as follows...

"Double Lover"- (Tuesday, August 14th at 7:30 pm) Crafting a deliriously cinematic web of suspense, shock, eroticism, and power dynamics, writer/director François Ozon (“Swimming Pool”) returns to master the thriller genre with “Double Lover.” In the new film, Ozon reunites with two actors whom he previously directed in breakout roles, Marine Vacth (“Young & Beautiful”) and Jérémie Renier (“Criminal Lovers”), now helming them in an intense exploration of a woman venturing into dangerous romance. With Jacqueline Bisset. (2018. French with English subtitles. 1 hr, 47 min. Directed by François Ozon. R.)

"Loveless"- (Tuesday, August 21st at 7:30 pm and a special matinee closed-captioned encore screening on Wednesday, August 22nd at 1 pm) The Russian nominee for the 2017 Best Foreign Film Oscar tells the story of Zhenya and Boris who are going through a vicious divorce marked by resentment, frustration and recriminations. Already embarking on new lives, each with a new partner, they are impatient to start again, to turn the page- even if it means threatening to abandon their 12-year-old son Alyosha. Until, after witnessing one of their fights, Alyosha disappears. (2017. Russian [with English Subtitles]. 2 hrs, 9 min. Directed by Andrey Zvyagintsev. R.)

"The Death of Stalin"- (Tuesday, August 28th at 7:30 pm and a special matinee closed-captioned encore screening on Wednesday, August 29th at 1 pm) The one-liners fly as fast as political fortunes fall in this uproarious, wickedly irreverent satire from Armando Iannucci (“Veep,” “In the Loop”). Moscow, 1953: when tyrannical dictator Joseph Stalin drops dead, his parasitic cronies square off in a frantic power struggle to be the next Soviet leader. Among the contenders are the dweeby Georgy Malenkov (Jeffrey Tambor), the wily Nikita Khrushchev (Steve Buscemi), and the sadistic secret police chief Lavrentiy Beria (Simon Russell Beale). But as they bumble, brawl, and backstab their way to the top, just who is running the government? Combining palace intrigue with rapid-fire farce, this audacious comedy is a bitingly funny takedown of bureaucratic dysfunction performed to the hilt by a sparkling ensemble cast. With Jason Isaacs, Andrea Riseborough and Michael Palin. (2018. UK 1 hr, 47 min. Directed by Armando Iannucci. R. )

For more information on this or other Grand events, including on Tuesday, September 4th at 7:30 pm and a special matinee closed-captioned encore screening on Wednesday, September 5th at 1 pm, the September “First CineGrand” screening sponsored by First Advisors and First National Bank– “Tully,” the new comedy about motherhood in the 21st century from Academy Award (R)-nominated director Jason Reitman ("Up in the Air"), Academy Award (R)-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody ("Juno") and starring Academy Award (R) winner Charlize Theron– please call the box office at 207-667-9500 or visit The Grand website at www.grandonline.org or follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/TheGrand1938/

Video and Gallery: 2018 Sea Princesses Visit Knox Center For Long Term Care

Rockland, Maine- This is the day each of the girls will meet one on one with the judges.  These meetings will continue till each girl has had a chance to meet with the judges.
In the meantime there is much to be done.

The girls gather at the Knox Center early for a viewing of the film "Buggin" an in depth look at the lobster industry through the eyes of a lobsterman.  After the film it is off to sign the Maine Lobster Festival posters that are given to all the sponsors of the festival.  Can we say writer's cramp, that is a lot of posters!  Once the posters are done the girls create their own bouquets for the Maine Sea Goddess Coronation, which will take place on Wednesday the first of August.

Everyone's favorite part of the day is when the girls have a chance to meet some of the residents and to sing for them.  The smiles on every face tell you that this is a good day.  After singing all those songs that were popular long before these girls were born it is time for lunch, a lobster dinner prepared by the Knox Center's staff.
