Daniel Webster Defeats Southern Maine 3-1

The Huskies fell Tuesday night to Daniel Webster 3-1.
GORHAM, Maine -- Sophomore middle hitter Hannah Koehler (Bedford, N.H.) had 16 kills and a pair of blocks to lead the visiting Daniel Webster College Eagles defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 3-1 (25-21, 25-16, 14-25, 25-19) in a non-conference match Tuesday night at the Warren Hill Gymnasium.

            The win snapped a two-match losing skid for the Eagles and improved their overall record to 4-11.  The Huskies had their two-match winning streak snapped to fall to 6-8 overall.

            Koehler dominated the middle of the net with her 16 kills and a .438 attack percentage (16-2-32).  Junior Madeline Roulier (Pittsfield, Mass.) contributed eight kills without an error on 28 attacks.  Sophomore Nicole Beard (Shelton, Conn.) quarterbacked the offense with 28 assists.

            Another key to the Eagles victory were the 15 service aces they had in the match, paced by rookie libero Meaghan Six (Manchester, N.H.) who had four.  Six also had a team-high 15 digs, while Roulier dug up 12 balls and sophomore Amanda Gendron (Mont Vernon (N.H.) had 11 digs.

            For the Huskies, sophomore outside hitter Jess Williamson (Goffstown, N.H.) and junior setter Megan Nilson (Granby, Conn.) posted double-doubles.  Williamson had 18 kills and 17 digs, and Nilson put up 28 assists and had 13 digs.  Sophomore middle hitter Robbi Termentozzi (Grand Junction, Colo.) had 10 kills with one error on 13 attacks.  Senior Demi Ruder (Grand Junction, Colo.) shared match-high honors with Williamson with 17 digs.

            Southern Maine will take part in the Johnson & Wales University Wildcat Classic this Friday and Saturday.  Daniel Webster will play in a tri-match at Newbury College on Saturday (11:00 a.m.).
