Sea Dogs sign PDL with Red Sox

Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs have accepted the invitation from Major League Baseball and the Boston Red Sox to join Major League Baseball’s new player development structure by signing a Professional Development License (PDL). The ten-year agreement will keep the Red Sox affiliation in Portland at least through the 2030 season.

Binghamton, NY - Kyle Hart (6.2 IP), Daniel McGrath (1.1 IP), and Adam Lau (1 IP) combined to no-hit the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (9-6), as the Portland Sea Dogs (5-11) won the road trip opener, 2-0, Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium.

Hart (1-3) allowed one walk, two hit batters, and fanned six over his 6.2 IP. The win was his first of the season in his fourth start. McGrath (hold #1) retired all four batters faced, stranding a runner at third base to end the seventh. Lau (save #1) gave up a one-out walk to Sam Haggerty but fanned Andrew Gimenez, and got Mike Paez on a fly out to RF Aneury Tavarez to end the game.

The Sea Dogs cracked the ice in the seventh inning off losing pitcher Mike Gibbons (2-2). Bobby Dalbec (2-for-4) singled, advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and scored on a single from Luke Tendler. In the ninth, Tender's sacrifice fly scored Dalbec, who advanced on two wild pitches.

Tate Matheny went 3-for-4, and Jhon Nunez added two hits for the Sea Dogs. The 9-inning no-hitter was the first as a Red Sox affiliate.

The Sea Dogs and Rumble Ponies (Mets affiliate) play game two of their series on Friday night with a 7:05 PM first pitch from NYSEG Stadium. RHP Denyi Reyes (0-2, 8.78) takes on RHP Harol Gonzalez (1-0, 3.24).  Radio coverage on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network begins at 6:50 PM. Sea Dogs Announce Makeup Games for April 9th & 10th Postponements

Doubleheaders scheduled for May 5th and July 11th

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs have rescheduled the games from April 9th and 10th against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies that were postponed due to weather. The April 9th game will be made-up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday, May 5th at 1:00 PM. While the April 10th postponed game will be made-up as a doubleheader on Thursday, July 11th at 5:00 PM.

Both doubleheaders will be single-admission doubleheaders consisting of two seven-inning games. Please note to accommodate the doubleheader on July 11th, the game time has been changed from a 7:00 PM start to a 5:00 PM start.

Tickets for any of the postponed games can be exchanged for tickets of equal or lesser value to any remaining 2019 Sea Dogs home game, based upon availability. Fans with questions regarding tickets may contact the Sea Dogs ticket office at 207-879-9500 or email at tickets@seadogs.com.

The Sea Dogs have a total of four postponed games due to weather at Hadlock Field this season.

Sam Moody outdueled Ben Ripley to lead Camden Hills to a 2-1 home win over Oceanside.

Aiden Schecter tied the game with a 4th inning RBI groundout and plated the game winning with fly ball double in the 6th to plate Ionut Lodge and give Camden Hills the win.

Karl Ilvonen’s RBI single scored Ripley in the 2nd to give Oceanside the lead, however the Mariners were unable to snap the tie in the 6th inning despite having the bases loaded.

Wheaton spoils UNE home-opener

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Two goals in each half lead Wheaton College (Mass.) over the University of New England women's soccer team, 4-0, in the Nor'easters' home opener on Sunday afternoon at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

The Lyons struck first in the 12th minute as Kenza Farid put home the rebound off a shot by Lily Scammon. Aymara O'Brien-Pappalardo connected from the top of the box for her first of two goals on the day to put Wheaton in front 2-0 at halftime. UNE made a late push in the first half with two late corner kicks and attempts at goal.

O'Brien-Pappalardo extended the Lyons' advantage to 3-0 in the 67th minute on a cross in front by Farid. Jaime Rattenni added the final goal in the 78th minute, her first of the year.

Wheaton held a 20-10 advantage in shots and 11-6 on goal.

Goalkeeper Emily Ashman made three saves in the first half for the Nor'easters. Jenna Pannone replaced her to begin the second and made four stops.

UNE will visit Westfield State on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 3 p.m.

Hickey, Nor'easters run away from field to start 2018

STANDISH, Maine -- Jacob Hickey captured his first collegiate race with a cushion of 37 seconds as the University of New England men's cross country squad registered 19 points to claim the Saint Joseph's College Invitational on Saturday morning (Sep.1).

Hickey's 5K time of 16:45 put him ahead of teammates Ben Wright (17:22) and Anthony Chase (17:42) within the field of 36 runners. Rounding out the team score was Donovan Duffy (18:17) and Xander Vitarelli (18:27) by placing in 6th and 7th, respectively.

The host Monks totaled 44 as the runner-up, with the University of Maine-Farmington coming in at 71 points.

The Nor'easters are scheduled to host the UNE Invitational next Saturday (11:30) at Rotary Park.

FH: Britney Gregoire Nets a Pair in Season-Opening Win

WATERVILLE, Maine – Freshman Britney Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) netted her first two collegiate goals less than a minute apart to lead the Thomas College field hockey team to a 4-1 victory over the University of Southern Maine in their season opener Friday night at Bernatchez Field.

Haley Thebarge (Smithfield, Maine) notched the Terriers' first goal of the season at the 21:44 mark of the first half on a score assisted by Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine) to give Thomas the 1-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, USM pulled back even 3:39 into the frame on a goal by Hanna Trottier-Braun to knot the game at 1-1. Gregoire netted her two goals at the 62:11 and 62:49 marks to push the Terriers ahead 3-1, then Danita Storey (Cumberland, Maine) notched her first of the season with 20 second remaining to cap off the 4-1 victory.

Leah Kruse (Norridgewock, Maine) picked up the win in the cage for Thomas, recording one save on two shots. Lindsay Pych was given the loss for USM.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

• Thomas starts the season 1-0 for the third consecutive year, after picking up wins against USM in their season opener last year (1-0) and in 2016 (2-1).
• The Terriers' four goals are the most the team has scored in a game since September 3, 2016, when they defeated Nichols 5-1.

FH: Skidmore Blanks Thomas 4-0

WATERVILLE. Maine – The Thomas College field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon at Bernatchez Field.

The Thoroughbreds struck twice early in the first half, with tallies by Gabby Hyman (2:51) and Mariah Redler (7:52). Skidmore maintained the advantage through to halftime.

The visitors tacked on another early in the second on a second Hyman goal 3:42 in, then capped off the 4-0 victory with a goal by Emily Richmond at the 44:47 mark.

Elizabeth Coughlin earned the win in net for Skidmore while sharing time with Madeleine Carre and Jess Gaetgens in the combined shutout. MacKenzie Oberholzer (Hancock, Md.) took the loss for Thomas, stopping nine of 13 shots.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

• Thomas held a 10-4 margin in penalty corners in the second half after Skidmore held a 10-2 advantage in the first.

WSOC: Terriers Blank Mitchell 2-0

GORHAM, Maine - Katherine Hoving (Bristol, Maine) scored her second goal in as many days while Julia Smith (Durham, Maine) added her first of the season to give Thomas a 2-0 victory over Mitchell on Saturday afternoon at the University of Southern Maine.

After a scoreless first, Hoving got Thomas on the board in the 52^nd minute after a collecting a loose ball at the top of the box and firing a shot home to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead. Smith added on her insurance goal in the 75^th minute with Maddy Noyes (Gardiner, Maine) picking up the assist to give Thomas the 2-0 victory.

Kayla Gordon (Wiscasset, Maine) was strong in net, stopping both shots she faced for the shutout victory. Drew Johnson took the loss, allowing two goals on 12 shots.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

• After scoring in yesterday's season opener, Hoving became the first Thomas rookie since 2010 to score in her first two collegiate games.
• The Terriers dominated the shot category, outshooting Mitchell 27-2 on the day.

Strong outing by Rodriguez, 'Dogs beat the 'Cats 4-3

Portland, Maine - Eduardo Rodriguez allowed just one hit and struck out eight in four innings and the Sea Dogs (54-70) defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (69-54) 4-3 on Monday night at Hadlock Field.

Making an MLB rehab appearance for Portland, Rodriguez allowed just three baserunners - a double to Jon Berti on a 3-0 pitch and a pair of walks to go along with his eight strikeouts.  The lefty threw 63 pitches (39 strikes).

Aaron Sanchez was also making an MLB rehab appearance and started the game for New Hampshire.  Sanchez allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits in 4.1 innings. He walked four and struck out four.

Portland plated the game's first run in the second inning when Jhon Nunez scored on a passed ball by catcher Patrick Cantwell.

The Sea Dogs added three more runs in the fourth off Sanchez on a pair of walks, a two-run double by Jeremy Rivera and an RBI single by Chad De La Guerra.

Rivera reached base four times with a single, double, and two walks.

New Hampshire began chipping away at the Sea Dogs' leadoff of Dedgar Jimenez, scoring a run in the fifth and sixth on RBI base hits from Bo Bichette and Santiago Espinal.

Bichette picked up his third hit and second RBI with a two-out single in the ninth to score Juan Kelly and make it 4-3 Portland.

Jimenez (8-7) earned the victory by pitching the final five innings in a piggyback start. Jimenez allowed two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out four. Jimenez struck out Forrest Wall with the tying run on first to end the ballgame.

The Sea Dogs and New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays affiliate) close out a two-game series on Tuesday night beginning at 6:00 PM from Hadlock Field. LHP Daniel McGrath (2-3, 3.59) takes on RHP T.J. Oceanside erupts for 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning, all scoring with 2 outs in the inning, to give Oceanside a come from behind 6-4 win over Hermon.  RBI singled by Logan Sheridan and Jack Freeman tied the game before Ben Ripley plated 2 with a single to give the Mariners the lead. Titus Kaewthong belted a 2 run homer in the 1st to put Oceanside on top.

Hermon scored twice in the 2nd on a error and Sacrifice Fly by Cody Hawes, and took the lead in the 3rd on Kent Johnson’s RBI double, scoring on an error to make it 4-2.

Oceanside pulled ahead in the sixth inning and closed it out in the seventh inning for a 3-0 victory. Leading off the sixth was Rachel Joyce reached on an error, Hannah Moholland walked on 4 straight pitches, Casey Pine popped out to second base, Chloe Jones walked, and Kalli Grover battled for another walk knocking in Rachel Joyce from Third base. Grace Woodman got two balls from Addie Jamerson then Gabby DePatsey came on in relief on the second pitch she saw Grace Lined a hard line drive to Center knocking in Lily Judecki who was a courtesey runner for the pitcher Jones. Kalli Grover finished the scoring on a wild pitch.

It was another close game with these two teams, it always comes down to who is gonna get the hit or make a mistake in the big situation. Its tough playing each other twice during the year and facing each other in the second round of the playoffs the last three years. 

Chloe Jones threw well for us today with 9 Ks and only 1 walk. She pitched out of some big jams but she also was backed with some good defensive plays non better than the game ending back handed catch up the middle by Rachel Joyce at second base stealing a basest from Hallie Kunesh.

Oceanside now travels to Old Town on Saturday for a 2pm game. We haven't faced them this year, but both teams know each other well, we faced them last year loosing to them 1-0 in 8 innings in the Finals at Brewer High School.

Logan Sheridan tossed a complete game 5 hitter, striking out 7 and walking none to lead Oceanside to a 2-0 opening round win over Presque Isle.

Oceanside scored both of their runs in the bottom of the 4th inning, while Michael Dougherty was hit by a pitch and then scored on Titus Kaewthong’s RBI double, and then he scored on Michael Norton, Jr.’s RBI single.

RJ Gross went the distance for Presque Isle allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 3. Jonah Hudson had a pair of singles to lead the Wildcat offense.

Oceanside got one run in the first inning. Abby Veilleux was out 5-3, Raechel Joyce struck out swinging, Hannah Moholland lined a single to center and the centerfielder missed played it and Moholland was on second. Casey Pine the captain of the team lined a shot off the third baseman's glove into left field knocking in the lone run of the game. Chloe Jones and our defense took over from there. Chloe had 11K's 1BB on the game, she hit her spots and our defense stepped it up. Rachel Joyce in the 4th inning made a great play, Madison Thonrton lead off with a single, Maddy Neale singled, McKenzie Dyer hit a bullet of a line drive up the middle and Rachel Joyce made a great backhanded play up the middle on a line drive and tagged second for the double play.

Oceanside left 11 baserunners on base, we can't do that in the future. We have to get that big hit to plate runners.

Hart dominates in 5-1 win against Bowie, Recent Games Results

Luke Tendler 2-for-2, 3 RBI/Ockimey eighth homer

Portland, Maine - Kyle Hart held the Bowie Baysox (26-29) to just one run over seven innings and the Sea Dogs (21-36) took the middle game of the three game series 5-1 on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field.

Hart (W, 4-3) worked his fourth straight quality start and lowered his season ERA to 2.81 in the process.  The southpaw allowed five hits while walking one.

The Sea Dogs took a 2-0 lead early on a two-run double by Luke Tendler off of Lucas Long (L, 1-6).  Tender hit a sac fly in the fourth and doubled again in the seventh and finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

Josh Ockimey hit his eighth homer of the season to lead off the fourth off of Long.  Ockimey also doubled, walked, and scored twice.

Long allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits in 6.1 innings, he walked two and struck out two.

'Dogs score all 12 runs in last four innings, Tender game-winning homer

Altoona, Pa. - Two days ago in Reading, the Sea Dogs could not hold onto a 7-0. On Thursday night in Altoona, trailing 7-0 after five innings, the Portland Sea Dogs (14-24) scored 12 runs in the last four innings and beat the Curve (19-17), 12-9 in 10 innings.

With two outs in the tenth inning, Luke Tendler clocked a three-run homer over the right-field wall for the game-wall for the game-winning hit. Tendler finished 3-for-6, picking up his fourth homer of the year. Previous to Tender's at-bat, winning pitcher Trevor Kelley (1-2) hit for himself and struck out.

Kelley worked out of a bases-loaded-one-out jam in the 10th inning to secure his first win of the season.

Altoona built a 7-0 lead against Kevin McAvoy and Trey Ball. The Curve scored five times in the fifth inning, and the big hit was a two-run double by Jhin-De Jhang.

Portland chipped away in the seventh inning with the first three hitters delivering singles. Jantzen Witte (3-for-6) knocked home two runs with a single.

In the eighth inning, the 'Dogs did the same thing, picking up three straight hits. Chad De La Guerra and Jhon Nunez delivered run-scoring fielder's choices. Witte nailed an RBI single to right field.

The complete comeback began in the ninth inning. Nunez provided another RBI, and Danny Mars gave Portland the lead with a two-run single. De La Guerra added the ninth run with a run-scoring single.

In the ninth inning, Altoona tied the game on a ground-rule double by Logan Hill.

Portland scored 12 runs on 13 hits in the last four innings, and are now hitting .261, raising their batting average 30 points since May 8.

Portland and the Altoona Curve (Pirates affiliate) continue their four-game series on Friday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Right-hander Travis Lakins (0-1, 3.18) makes his fifth start of the season. Altoona counters with Dario Agrazal (3-0, 1.30). First pitch from Altoona is 6:00 PM. Portland, Maine - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (15-17) ended the Sea Dogs' (11-20) four-game win streak with a 5-1 win on Friday night at Hadlock Field.  The win for Binghamton ended their four-game losing streak as well.

Andrew Church (W, 1-4) gave the Rumble Ponies 6.1 scoreless innings in his start, he walked one and struck out six.

Binghamton scored the game's first run after loading the bases with nobody out in the fifth inning off of Kyle Hart (L, 1-3).  Hart walked Patrick Mazeika to force in a run, but then struck out Matt Oberste and induced a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.

The Ponies added a run off of Trey Ball in the seventh on an RBI single by Mazeika to score Levi Michael.  Binghamton iced it in the eighth with a three-run double by Jeff McNeil off of Trey Ball.

Hart posted a quality start despite getting the loss.  The lefty allowed just one run on five hits over six innings. He walked five and struck out five.

The Sea Dogs' lone run was scored on an RBI triple by Chad De La Guerra in the bottom of the eighth off of Joshua Torres.
