Southern Maine Finishes Third at Bowdoin Invitational

Senior Jon Clement finished 11th to help the Huskies come in third among 10 teams at the Bowdoin Invitational
BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine men's cross country team had five runners finish among the top 15 to place third among the 10 teams competing Saturday at the Bowdoin College Invitational.

            Colby College won the meet with 24 points on the strength of a 2-3-4-5 finish.  Host Bowdoin
was runner-up with 37 points followed by USM with 59 points.  The three teams combined to take the first 17 places.  Endicott College was fourth with 135 points.

            Senior Julian Gazzelloni (Windham, Maine) was the Huskies first finisher coming across the line in ninth place.  Gazzelloni covered the 8,000-meter course, site of the State of Maine Championships on October 17, in 26 minutes, 43.3 seconds.

            Seniors Jon Clement (South Portland, Maine) and Chris Dunn (Kennebunk, Maine) led a string of four straight Husky runners across the finish line.  Clement finished 11th with a time of 26:49.0, and Dunn was one spot back in 12th with a time of 26:51.4.

            Freshmen Yahye Hussein (Portland, Maine/Deering) and Ben Foster (Gorham, Maine) were the next two finishers in 13th and 14th place, respectively.  Hussein had a time of 26:52.7 and Foster was timed in 26:52.9.

            Rounding out USM's seven scoring runners were senior Will Lundquist (Augusta, Maine/Cony) in 16th place with a time of 27:05.2, and junior Roger Charest (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) in 45th place overall (30th in team scoring) after crossing the line in 28:38.8.
            Bowdoin junior Bridger Tomlin was the individual winner with his time of 26:02.4.
            Southern Maine will be off next weekend.  The Huskies next race will be on October 10 when they compete in the NEICAAA New England Championship at Franklin Park in Boston.
