GORHAM, Maine – Junior Katherine Hunziker (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) and senior Marissa Temple
(Grafton, Mass.) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's
soccer team have each earned weekly accolades from the Little East
Conference. Hunziker was named the LEC's Offensive Player of the Week,
while Temple was named the conference's Goalkeeper of the Week.
Hunziker is earning the first LEC weekly honor of her career after
tallying one goal and one assist in a 1-1 week for the Huskies. All of
Hunziker's points game in Southern Maine's 5-0 shut out win at Thomas
College on Saturday. Hunziker scored USM's second goal of the game and
assisted on the fourth to record her first intercollegiate points.
Temple, a second team All-Little East Conference selection in 2014,
is earning weekly goalkeeper of the week honors for the second time in
her career. Despite suffering a 3-0 set back to Bates College, Temple
set a career mark making 19 saves on 22 shots on goal for a .864 save
percentage in the contest. Temple then backstopped the Huskies' to
their second shutout victory of the season with a 5-0 win at Thomas,
making four saves to total 23 saves in two games. Temple now has an
outstanding .893 save percentage for the season and a 1.00 goals against
average.
Southern Maine travels to Salem State on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.) for a
non-conference game. Thomas College returns to action on Wednesday (7:00
p.m.) in a non-conference game against cross-town rival Colby College.
