The Nor'easters improved to 8-3-1 with the win, while USM dropped to 4-9-0. The victory was UNE's ninth consecutive positive decision over the Huskies.

UNE received all the scoring it would need for victory just 2:27 into the contest when Meader put home a low shot from the top of the box after receiving a feed from Becca Murphy. Anna Michaud had won a ball at midfield to help get the play started.

The Nor'easters doubled their lead just over five minutes later on a long shot just inside the right goal post by Devon Wolfenden. Brionne Turcotte had an assist.

The lead would improve to 3-0 in the 28th minute on a beautiful header by Turcotte off a corner kick service by Edie Pallozzi.

Recap, photo courtesy of University of Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine –  Sophomore Olivia Mull (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) notched her first career hat trick and junior Jessica Preble (Milo, Maine/Penquis Valley) and sophomore Ally Little (Stoneham, Mass.) each scored to goals as the University of Southern Maine Huskies rolled the Dean College Bulldogs 8-1 in a non-conference women's soccer game Monday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

Southern Maine improves to 4-7 with the win and stops a five-game skid.  Dean College falls to 2-9 with the loss.

Despite dominating possession early and pressuring the Bulldog defense, Southern Maine did not break through for its first goal of the game until the 14th minute when Preble took a perfectly threaded through ball from senior Analies Ross-Dyjak (Orono, Maine), and broke free in the box for a 1-0 lead.  USM's lead was short-lived however as freshman Megan Moore (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenedehowa) broke through the Huskies' defense on the restart and scored her first goal of the season just 15 seconds after Preble's goal.

The score remained knotted at one from the next ten minutes before Preble tallied her fifth goal of the season and second goal of the game in the 25th minute.  USM took a 3-1 lead into the halftime break as Little rocketed in her third goal of the season off of an assist from junior Dayna Staffiere (Merrimack, N.H.) in the 38th minute.

Southern Maine continued to dominate possession in the second half and Little tallied her second goal of the game in the 55th minute to make it 4-1. This time Little struck for the top of the nets after a feed from sophomore Sarah Michaud (Candia, N.H./Manchester Central).  With a 4-1 lead in hand, Mull hustled her way to three goals in the 66th, 73rd and 83rd minute, collecting goals off of deflected saves and loose balls in the box.  Freshman Emma Cost (Waterboro, Maine/Massabesic) earned her first goal of her career in the 87th minute to close out the scoring.

Southern Maine outshot Dean 43-2,with 24 shots on goal.  Dean goalkeeper freshman Macy Parisee (East Freetown, Mass./Apponequet) had a busy day in net, turning in an outstanding performance making 16 saves. Sophomore Taylor Canastra (Fairhaven, Mass.) made one save in the win.

Southern Maine returns to Little East Conference action on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) when it hosts Plymouth State University.  Dean remains on the road and will face Mitchell College on Wednesday (3:00 p.m.).

UMaine Women's Soccer Announces 2016 Schedule

Full Schedule

Orono, Maine -- University of Maine head women's soccer coach Scott Atherley announced his program's 2016 game schedule on Friday, July 1. Maine will host five regular season home games as well as a neutral site contest in Saco, Maine, in the upcoming season as it looks to improve on its America East semifinal finish a year ago.

"Our 2016 schedule is balanced," said Atherley. "Most of our non-conference opponents are quite familiar to us and each will present unique challenges as we ready ourselves for conference play. With half our rosters comprised of new players, we managed to avoid playing mid-week games. We also built in a small break between our non-conference and America East games. I anticipate we will welcome having the opportunity to reflect, revisit and regenerate as we head into the home stretch of our season. I am really looking forward to watching our team grow and develop over the course of the season."

The future looks strong for Atherley's squad, which returns 12 letterwinners and welcomes 12 newcomers to a team that finished 9-8-2 overall and 4-3-1 in America East play, good for fourth place. Maine returns two of its top three scorers in America East Rookie of the Year Vivien Beil (3 goals, 5 assists) and America East All-Rookie selection Anetra Byfield (4 goals). Bowdoin Women's Soccer Ready For NESCAC Semifinals Saturday

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's soccer team will look to win its first NESCAC Tournament this weekend as they travel to Williams College for the conference championship.

Saturday's schedule gets underway at 11 a.m. when the host Ephs take on sixth-seeded Middlebury. Second-seeded Bowdoin and fourth-seeded Trinity face off at 1:30 p.m. Advancing teams will battle for the NESCAC championship on Sunday at noon with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament up for grabs.
Bowdoin is making back-to-back semifinal appearances for the first time since 2007-08 after shutting out seventh-seeded Tufts, 3-0. Senior Maggie Godley (North Kingstown, R.I.) set the tone early when she scored in the eighth minute, while senior Jamie Hofstetter (Chester, N.J.) assisted two goals and scored another to extend the Polar Bears' current winning streak to six games. Hofstetter and first-year Julia Patterson (Hingham, Mass.) have netted a team-best seven goals with Hofstetter also dishing out five assists. Senior Bridget McCarthy (Hopkinton, Mass.) is Bowdoin's primary goalkeeper, posting a 0.96 goals against average and an .816 save percentage with five shutouts. The Polar Bears are making their third semifinal appearance in the last four seasons and 11th overall, but are still looking for their first conference title after losing their two previous championship appearances versus Williams in 2007 and 2012.

Trinity advanced to its second-ever NESCAC semifinal by defeating fifth-seeded Bates, 2-1, last Saturday. After the Bobcats opened up a 1-0 lead, first-year Taylor Kirchgessner (Bethesda, Md.) assisted the Bantams' first goal and scored the eventual game-winner in the 36th minute. Kirchgessner and junior Laura Nee (Duxbury, Mass.) have tallied five goals each, but seven different players have scored game-winning goals for Trinity. In goal, the Bantams have relied on Monica DiFiori (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), who has played all but 11 minutes this season. The senior possesses an .839 save percentage, a 1.12 goals against average and eight shutouts. The Bantams aim to reach their first NESCAC championship game.

Bowdoin is 2-0-0 against the Bantams in the postseason, with the Polar Bears winning the most recent meeting in the 2007 quarterfinals, 2-0. Trinity's Caroline McKenna (Sandwich, Mass.) scored in the 81st minute of the regular season meeting between the squads to give the Bantams a 1-0 win over Bowdoin on October 10.

All three games will be webcasted by the Northeast Sports Network (NSN) at nescac.nsnsports.net.

Bowdoin Women's Soccer Comes Away With OT Victory

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Julia Patterson scored four minutes into overtime to lift the Polar Bears to a 2-1 victory against Hamilton late Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (6-4-1, 4-3-0 NESCAC) rebound from a pair of losses last weekend while handing the Continentals (4-5-3, 2-4-3 NESCAC) their first loss since September 20. Bowdoin spoils a seven game unbeaten streak for Hamilton.

How It Happened
  • Jamie Hofstetter gave Bowdoin the early 1-0 lead 10:06 into the game. Following a Taylor Haist corner kick that was lofted high into box, the ball deflected off a Hamilton defender and bounced in front of Hofstetter.  The senior forward had her back to the goal, but turned on the bouncing ball and sent a shot high into the crossbar and back into the net.
  • Hamilton tied the game with 41 seconds remaining in the first half. Katja Dunlap served a ball into the box from the left side, over the head of the Bowdoin defenders, giving Darby Phillbrick an uncontested look at Bridget McCarthy. Hamilton nearly came away with the victory in the final seconds of regulation as Becca Rees' shot deflected off the crossbar and over the net as time expired.
  • Hofstetter collected the ball in the midfield and made her way towards the Hamilton box to set up Bowdoin's overtime game winner. FARMINGTON, ME --- The Thomas College women's soccer team slid back to the .500 mark in North Atlantic Conference play after falling 3-0 to the University of Maine at Farmington on Thursday afternoon.

The Beavers (5-8-1, 2-4-1 NAC) struck early as Kaiti Kinney scored just 76 seconds in off an assist by Lydia Roy.

Thomas (6-7, 3-3 NAC) was able to keep UMF to the lone goal until the 71st minute when Bridget Humphrey chipped a ball in from outside the 18 that sailed over the head of Terrier goalkeeper Paige Leary (jr., Palermo, Maine / Erskine Academy) and bounced off the middle of the far goal post into the open net.

Humphrey's ability to chip the ball also played into the Beavers' third goal of the day. Awarded a free kick outside the 18 in the 77th minute, Humphrey lofted a ball into the box that was headed in by Haley Murano for the goal.

UMF outshot Thomas, 40-6, including a 19-2 edge in shots on goal and had 15 corner kicks to the Terriers' three.
