Speer, Hillier make ITA quarterfinal round

WILLIAMSTOWN, Massachusetts — Cameron Hillier and Shaw Speer advanced to the quarterfinal round of double play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Men’s Regional Championships at Williams College on Friday.

Hillier and Speer coasted to an 8-3 victory over an Endicott team in the opening round. The pair then took a 9-7 win against a team from Wesleyan to advance to the quarterfinal round. Hillier and Speer were up 6-3, lost the break of serve, and the broke serve again at 8-7 to win the match on a winner lob from Speer.
 
In Saturday’s play, Hillier and Speer will take on Bowdoin’s Kyle Wolfe and Jerry Jiang in a quarterfinal match.
 
In singles play, two-time All-American Carl Reid was the second seed in the tourney and was upset in three sets (6-2, 2-6, 6-2) by Will De Quant of Middlebury.
 
Hillier also played singles and was defeated 6-3, 6-4 by eighth-seeded Brian Granoff of Brandeis.
