Smithfield, Rhode Island -- The University of Maine Field Hockey team defeats
Bryant 8-0. With the win today Maine improves to 8-2 on the season while
Bryant drops to 2-8.
The Black Bears opened with a goal three minutes into the game from Casey Crowley (New Plymouth, New Zealand) her first of the day with the assist from Danielle Aviani (Surrey, British Columbia) to give Maine an early 1-0 advantage.
Thirteen minutes later Katie Bingle (Selby, England) scored her second goal of the season off of an assist from Aviani to give the Black Bears a 2-0 advantage.
Towards the end of the first half, Maine was able to strike for their
third unasnwered goal, Crowley was able to score her second of the game
to give the Black Bears a 3-0 lead.
Maine outshot Bryant 12 to 3 in the first half.
Seven minutes into the second half, Crowley fired a strike into the
center of the cage for the hat trick. The Black Bears were up 4-0.
Sydney Veljacic
(Coquitlam, British Columbia) was able to dribble by a defender and
fire a quick shot into the back of the cage giving Maine their fifth
unanswered goal and a 5-0 lead.
Five minutes later, Veljacic was able to score her second of the game off of a cross from Ella Mosky (Victoria, British Columbia) which gave the Black Bears a 6-0 advantage.
Libby Riedl (Port Moody, British Columbia) was able to convert on a 2-on-1 and scored for her second goal of the season for a 7-0 lead.
Jessica Skillings (Skowhegan, Maine) was able to evade the goalie and score the eighth Black Bear goal of the game.
Emily Corbett
(Listowel, Ontario) was able to pick up her third win of the season and
improve her record to 3-1. Maine was able to outshoot Bryant 30-3.
Maine returns to action Sep. 27 against Northeastern at the University of Maine Field Hockey complex, the game is at 2:00 pm
