CASTLETON, Vermont – The Thomas College field hockey team defeated
Castleton University 2-1 on Friday night in their first North Atlantic
Conference game of the year. Seniors Brooklyn Curry and Emily Leighton were the goal scorers in the win.
The Terriers opened up the scoring in the 27th minute when
Curry added her second goal of the season off of a rebound. The
Spartans would add a goal just three minutes after from Haley Spittle
and an assist from Erin Cournoyer to tie the game 1-1 before the half.
Thomas held a 12-1 advantage for shots on goal at halftime.
The Terriers took the lead back at the 41st minute when Leighton added her first goal of the year on a pass from Abigail Dunn
to put the Terriers up 2-1. The score remained the same for the rest
of the contest giving the Red and Black the victory in their first
conference game.
Thomas held a 20-2 advantage in shots on goal and a 20-9 advantage in penalty corners for the contest. Junior Abbie Charrier earned the win in goal for the Terriers while Meeghan Doris had an 18 save performance in the loss for the Spartans.
The Terriers will be back in action on the road Sunday, September 27th at Rivier University for a 1:00 pm non-conference matchup.
