Interim head coach Mark Serdjenian earned his first victory with the women’s team. He had 261 victories with the Colby men’s soccer program.
The Mules move to 1-1 overall heading into Saturday’s 11 a.m. home opener with third-ranked Williams College.
The Mules struck first with 18 minutes to play in the first half on a goal from Lauren McCarthy. Turbeville sent McCarthy in on a pass just outside the 18 and beat Terriers goalie Paige Leary to give the Mules a 1-0 lead.
Colby had a 9-0 shot advantage and a 3-1 margin in corner kicks in the opening half.
Colby added an insurance goal 12 minutes into the second half on a score from Turbeville. Laura Arnold sent a pass from the left side, deflecting off the fingertips of Leary and then off of the foot of Turbeville into the open net for a 2-0 lead.
Samantha Rizzo made three saves for Colby to earn her first collegiate shutout. Thomas goalkeeper Paige Leary kept her team in the game with 16 stops.
Colby had a 32-4 shot advantage and a 5-2 margin corner kicks.
