POLAND, Maine – Junior Shawn Francoeur
(Windham, Maine) finished fourth overall to lead the University of
Southern Maine Huskies to a third place finish at the 2015 Maine State
Intercollegiate Golf Championship this weekend at the Fairlawn Golf and
Country Club. Francoeur was one of three Huskies to earn a top-15
finish in the 55-golfer field.
Southern Maine finished third out of 11 Maine colleges and
universities competing in the championship with a two-day score of 614
(296-318). St. Joseph's College rallied from a four-stroke deficit to
take the top spot with a score of 607 (300-307), while Husson University
placed second with a 608 (306-302). Southern Maine led the 11-team
field after the first day with its 296 after the first round led by
Francoeur and junior captain Tom Murray (Bangor, Maine). Francoeur and Murray each carded a 72 in the opening round.
Francoeur was outstanding totaling five birdies and 10 even par shots
over the weekend, including one-under on the par-five 16th hole in the
opening round. Francoeur finished with a 150 (72-76) for the weekend to
tie for fourth place and finish ten strokes off the leader Daulton
Wickenden of Husson University. Murray placed seventh overall totaling a
151 (72-79). Murray opened the tourney with two birdies and 14
even-par shots.

steady performance. J. Francoeur finished the championship with a trio
of birdies to finish 14 strokes above par for the weekend. Junior Alex Carroll (Searsport, Maine) and senior Austin Bringman
(Lewiston, Maine) finished as the Huskies' fourth and fifth golfers
respectively. Carroll placed 17th with a 158 (74-84), while Bringman
totaled a 166 (84-82) to earn a tie for 34th.
Southern Maine competes at the Husson College Invitational on Saturday (10:00 a.m.).
