Greenleaf Leads UMF Past Southern Maine 1-0

USM will look to rebound when it starts LEC action on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) at home against Bridgewater State
GORHAM, Maine – Sophomore LeeAnne Greenleaf (Gardiner, Maine) scored the lone goal of the game in the 55th minute to lead the University of Maine Farmington Beavers to a 1-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference field hockey game Wednesday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

With the win, UMaine Farmington remains undefeated through three games at 3-0.  Southern Maine evens out its record with the loss to stand at 2-2.

After a scoreless first half that saw limited scoring opportunities for both sides, UMaine Farmington struck for the decisive goal.  Greenleaf tallied the game-winner redirecting a pass through traffic from sophomore Sarita Crandall (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue).  Greenleaf's goal is her third of the season and her second game-winning goal of 2015.

UMaine Farmington junior goalkeeper Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine) made seven saves to earn the shutout victory.  Smith and the Beavers have allowed just one goal through three games. Southern Maine junior goalkeeper Amanda Kasbohm (York, Maine) made five saves in the loss.

Southern Maine returns to action at home on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) in its Little East Conference opener.  The Huskies will host Bridgewater State.  UMaine Farmington hosts Rivier on Sunday (September 20) at 1:00 p.m. for its next contest.
