McDonough, Kennedy win races to beat Bates

NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine — Alanna McDonough won the senior/junior class race and teammate Taylor Kennedy was the first-year/sophomore winner for the Colby College women’s cross country team in a 58-52 victory over rival Bates College at Pineland Farms on Saturday.

In the class meet, the high score is the winner of the race. Colby’s juniors and seniors had a thrilling 28-27 victory, while the first-years and sophomores won 30-25.

 

McDonough had the best time of the day at 17 minutes, 1 second to win the 2.84-mile junior/senior race. Bates took the next three spots, but the Mules’ depth helped pull out the victory.

 

Catherine McClure was fifth in 17:56, Katie Metayer took sixth with a 17:57, Krista Brown placed seventh in 18:04, and Dylan Alles had the eighth spot in 18:05.

 

Kennedy was one of the stars of the day with her winning time of 17:11 over 2.84 miles. Her time was third-best among all runners and easily beat runner-up Katherine Cook (17:42) of Bates.

First-years Hannah Springhorn and Helen Chavey had solid debuts. Springhorn took fourth place in 18:00 and Chavey was right behind in 18:02. Caitlin Lawlor finished in sixth place with a 18:05 and Adrienne Carmack was ninth in 18:26.
