Mariners Fifth at Farmington; Olson Shoots Low Score‏

Waterville, Maine - Luke Olson (Charleston, Maine) shot 78 to pace Maine Maritime to a fifth place finish in the six-team Farmington Invitational on Thursday.  The Mariners combined for 321, finishing 23 strokes behind Saint Joseph's College, which won the season-opening tournament.

Playing as the Mariners' third-man, Olson's 78 marks a career-low for the junior. It was good enough to finish in a three-way tie for 14^th place in the field of 30 golfers. Olson's eight-over par round was seven shots off of the University of New England's Paul Butkevic, who was one over for a one-stroke victory. He edged Southern Maine's Alex Carroll. Saint Joe's edged Southern Maine by a single stroke for the team honors.

Keenan Kalthoff (Fallbrook, Calif.) shot 79 to tie with Farmington's Gavin Brickley, while Chase Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) carded an 81 to tie UNE's Garrett Krisko for 20^th place. Playing in his third competitive collegiate round, sophomore Karson Eaton (Mapleton, Maine) signed off on an 83 to tie for 22^nd with UNE's Mike Rich.

Playing as the Mariners' fifth-man, Dylan Birmingham (Brewer, Maine) logged an 84 for the lowest score of his four career outings. That landed him in a tie for 24^th place.

Maine Maritime returns to action next Friday, September 11 at the UMPI Invitational.
