STONY BROOK, New York -- Maine Baseball (5-20) fell
to Stony Brook (10-12) today in both games of the doubleheader. In game
one, Stony Brook came away victorious 11-0. In game two, a seven inning
affair Maine and Stony Brook were tied into the bottom of the seventh
when Stony Brook's J.Giles reached on a fielder's choice scoring a run
and giving the Seawolves a walk-off win.
Justin Courtney started on the mound for the Black Bears in game one and Chad Lee started for the Seawolves.
Jeremy Giles of Stony Brook drove in one run in the
bottom of the sixth after a single to give the
Seawolves a 1-0 lead.
Andrew Gazzola later singled to center field driving in another run
giving Stony Brook a 2-0 advantage. Johnny Caputo grounded out to first
as the third Stony Brook run scored for a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded,
Toby Handley forced a walk for a 4-0 Stony Brook advantage. After a wild
pitch, David Real scored and Stony Brook pulled ahead 5-0. The
Seawolves tallied one more after a dropped third strike throw was errant
scoring two Seawolves runs, 7-0. Later in the inning, Johnny Caputo
flied out to center giving Stony Brook a 8-0 advantage.
Stony Brook drove in three more runs in the bottom of
the eighth. Jeremy Giles singled up the middle scoring one for a 9-0
lead. Toby Hadley hit a sacrifice fly to center giving the Seawolves
their tenth run of the game, 10-0. Johnny Caputo singled driving in the
Seawolves' last run of the game and taking a commanding 11-0 lead.
Justin Courtney falls to 1-3 on the year, while Chad
Lee improves his record to 3-2. Courtney finished the day with six and
one-third innings pitched, allowing only four hits, four runs, two walks
and seven strikeouts.

Game two saw the Black Bears take an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Danny Casals lead off the game with a triple to right center, Tyler Schwanz later hit an RBI sacrifice fly to center scoring Casals to give Maine their first run of the day.
Logan Fullmer received his second start of the season for the Black Bears.
In the bottom of the second, Stony Brook tied the game after Bobby Honeyman drove in one run after a bunt to the pitcher, 1-1.
Fullmer kept the Seawolves scoreless and finished the
game pitching in six innings allowing six hits, allowing one unearned
run and striking out five.
In the bottom of the seventh, with a runner on third,
Stony Brook's Jeremy Giles reached on a fielder's choice scoring the
winning run for the walkoff.
The third game of the series scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Sunday has been cancelled due to weather.
