Maine Maritime Stumbles Against NEC on Senior Day

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse fell to New England College 18-1 on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference action.

The Pilgrims held the Mariners scoreless in the first three quarters, building a 17-0 lead, until Chase Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) tallied the lone goal for the Mariners at 9:53 in the fourth quarter. New England College added another goal later in the fourth to take the 18-1 victory.

Michael Dedian (Scarborough, Maine) led the Mariners with six ground balls and Cody Schell
(Pasadena, Md.) tallied 17 shots in net.

Amani Mwingira led the Pilgrims with four goals, while Liam Chenail, Jerred Sausville and Sean Largay tallied hat tricks and Skyler Saunders grabbed a pair of goals. Connor Fries led all players with 13 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. NEC's William Platt earned the win in net, stopping three shots in just under 39 minutes of play and teammate Daniel Tibbrine stopped four shots in net to close out the game.

The Mariners fall to 4-9 overall and 4-3 in the NAC, while the Pilgrims improve to 11-6 on the season and a perfect 8-0 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Monday at Husson.

In a ceremony prior to the game the Mariners honored their four seniors, Michael Dedian, Tim Grant (East Northport, N.Y.), CJ Kruse (Skowhegan, Maine) and Ryan McLellan (Sidney, Maine).
