Game 1: Lyndon State 4, Thomas 1
Lyndon (7-21, 4-12 NAC) broke open a scoreless game with three runs on three hits in the second inning. Ryan Cordeiro and Nathan Stewart opened the inning with back-to-back singles, then moved into scoring position on a Ben Rollins sacrifice bunt. After a John Boulay walk loaded the bases, Ian Machia drew a walk to force in Cordeiro for the first run of the game. Devon Rollins followed with a single through the left side to plate Stewart and Boulay scored when Reece Tanguay reached on a fielder's choice.
The Terriers (16-15, 10-8 NAC) threatened in the fourth inning as Nik Beeson and Zach Mathieu
worked their way into scoring position with two outs, only to see Joe Quinlan fly out to center to end the inning.
The Hornets added another run in the sixth as Stewart scored on a bases-loaded RBI groundout by Devon Rollins.
Thomas finally cracked the scoring column in the top of the seventh as Beeson scored on a Brett Sommers hit a sacrifice fly to right field.
Jeff Williams (3-3) gained his third win of the season allowing three hits in four innings of work while striking out two. Three Lyndon relievers combined to allow one run on one hit and one walk while striking out one over the final three innings.
Isiah Fleming (4-1) surrendered the loss for the Terriers. He gave up five hits, four earned runs, walked five and struck out two over five innings. Dominic Esposito pitched one inning of one-hit relief, striking out one.
Beeson had a pair of doubles to account for two of Thomas' four hits. Mathieu and Max Salevsky each added a single, while Hank Vinall drew a walk.
Ben Rollins went 2-for-2 at the plate, while Devon Rollins added two RBIs.
Game 2: Thomas 5, Lyndon State 3 (9 innings)
The Terriers wasted little time getting on the board in the second game as Michael De Los Santos singled in Derek Kane in the top of the first to take the 1-0 lead.
The Hornets knocked on the door in the bottom of the second but were denied as Cordeiro was tagged out at home on a failed squeeze attempt.
The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth when the Hornets were able to post three runs and grab the lead. With the bases loaded, Kane - who started the game on the mound for the Terriers - issued a walk to David Laroche and plunked John Boulay with a pitch to plate the first two Lyndon runs. The hit-by-pitch proved to be the end of the line for Kane, who was lifted in favor of Esposito. Following a strikeout, Kevin Tufo squeezed in Cordeiro from third to cap the scoring for the inning.
Thomas answered with two in the top of the fifth as Beeson grounded out to second base to score Anree Benitez and De Los Santos singled again to score Kane to tie the game at 3-3.
With neither team able to gain any traction in the sixth or seventh innings, the game went to extras.
After a scoreless eighth, the Terriers were able to get the offense going with two outs in the top of the ninth. Zach Mathieu singled to open the rally. Derek LeBlanc entered the game as a pinch-runner and promptly stole second base before being doubled home by Beeson. De Los Santos followed with an RBI single to plate Beeson and give Thomas a 5-3 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, Esposito worked around a leadoff walk to close out the victory.
Andre Eason Jr. led the Hornets offensively going 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. Tanguay added two hits, while David Lacroche drw a pair of walks.
De Los Santos finished with three hits and three RBIs for the Terriers while Beeson added a hit, two RBIs, and a run. Mathieu was also 3-for-4 before being replaced by LeBlanc.
Esposito earned the win on the mound, pitching six innings of scoreless relief. He gave up just four hits and a walk while striking out three.
Andrew Whalen (0-5) took the loss for the Hornets. In three innings of work, he allowed two runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Ben Rollins went four innings in the start for Lyndon, allowing one run on four hits.
