GREENE, Maine -- The Bates men's rowing team won four out of five races Sunday in its final home regatta, playing host to Middlebury College and the University of New Hampshire.

Bates accumulated a 6-1 record over the five races: varsity eights, second varsity eights, varsity fours, novice fours and novice eights. Only the varsity fours race went an opponent's way, with the Bobcats placing second against two Middlebury boats.

The Bobcats won the varsity eights main event by an 11-second margin, covering the 2,000-meter home course on the Androscoggin River in 6:20.0. UNH came next (6:31.0) followed by Middlebury (7:14.8).

Bates' second eight posted an impressive 15.8-second win against UNH, 6:38.4 to 6:54.2. The Bobcats went head to head against Middlebury in novice eights and won going away, while in novice fours Bates defeated UNH 7:43.6 to 7:52.8.

The Bobcats hope the regatta will serve as a good tuneup for next Saturday's big event, the New England Rowing Championships in Worcester, Massachusetts.
