Maine Baseball Swept by Hartford in Saturday's Doubleheader

HARTFORD, Connecticut -- Maine baseball was swept by Hartford in their doubleheader Saturday. The Black Bears are now 11-25 on the season and 2-7 in conference play. Hartford improves to 24-12 overall and 7-7 in America East.

In game one, Logan Fullmer received the start on the hill and Kyle Gauthier started for the Hawks.
After three scoreless innings, Tyler Schwanz hit a single to center scoring Brenden Geary, the Black Bears took a 1-0 lead.

Hartford answered in the bottom half of the inning with five runs of their own. TJ Ward doubled
down the left field line resulting in the Hawks taking a 2-1 lead. Ashton Bardzell later tripled to right center scoring two more, adding to the Hartford lead, 4-1. Aaron Wilson then singled to first scoring one more as the Hawks held a 5-1 advantage.

Jeremy Pena hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Caleb Kerbs cutting into the Hartford lead, 5-2.
In the bottom of the eighth, Tyler Schwanz hit a deep fly ball to right field driving in three runs and tying the game 5-5.

Hartford's Chris DelDebbio hit a walkoff homerun in the bottom of the tenth for a 6-5 victory.

John Arel started game two for the Black Bears and Brian Murphy for the Hawks.

Both teams were held scoreless through four innings of play. The Black Bears opened with the first run of the game in the top of the fifth from a Jonathan Salcedo double to right center scoring Tyler Schwanz as Maine took a 1-0 lead.

Hartford answered in the bottom of the sixth, Erik Ostberg singled up the middle with the bases loaded tying the game 1-1. Chris Sullivan also hit an infield single giving Hartford a 2-1 lead. Ben Bengston then followed with a single to center and the Hawks increased the margin to 3-1. TJ Ward scored the fourth Hawk run of the inning after grounding out at second, but the run scored and the Hawks led 4-1.

Maine was unable to score in the top of the seventh as Hartford preserved the win.
The Black Bears square off against Hartford for game three of the series tomorrow beginning at 12:00 p.m.
