UMF Men’s Track and Field Places Fifth at Maine Championship

WATERVILLE, Maine – University of Maine Farmington men's track and field had a strong showing at the Maine State Championship on Saturday afternoon, hosted by Colby College, with a fifth place team finish.

UMF had ten athletes set personal records in the state championship meet..

The Beavers were led by the trio of Alan Young (Poland, Maine/Poladn), Shane Hathaway (Pittsfield, Maine/MCI) and Jake Roberts (South China, Maine/Erskine Academy).

Alan Young (Poland, Maine/Poland) placed second in the high jump event with a impressive leap of 1.78m. Roberts placed five in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.33 seconds while Hathaway placed sixth in the long jump event at 6.24m.

Zach Lavioe (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) had a strong showing in the triple jump by bounding 12.31m and shattered his previous personal record by two and a half feet.

Overall, the Beavers placed fifth in the team standings and first among competing North Atlantic Conference (NAC) schools.

UMaine-Farmington will compete at the NAC Championship next Sunday, hosted by Colby-Sawyer College.
