Polar Bears Sweep Eagles on Senior Day

BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University softball team dropped both games of their non-conference doubleheader with Bowdoin College on Sunday afternoon at O'Keefe Field. The Eagles fell to the Polar Bears in game one, 8-0, and the night cap, 11-0.

In a pregame ceremony senior's Lyndsay Merrill, Sami Cyr and Allison Hill were all recognized for their contributions to the Husson softball program.

GAME 1: Bowdoin 8 Husson 0 in Five Innings
Bowdoin (18-13-2) scored all the runs they'd need in the first inning on route to an 8-0 victory in
game one.  Claire McCarthy was 3-for-4 with two runs, a RBI and a two-bagger to the lead the Polar Bears.

Caroline Rice (one run, one RBI), Natalie Edwards (two runs, one RBI and a double), Marisa O'Toole (one run, a double, a homerun and three RBI) all had two hits for Bowdoin in the win.

Julia Geaumont earned the win inside the circle for the Polar Bears after yielding just four hits with a walk and five punch-outs over 5.0 innings.

Alannah Healy picked up the loss for Husson (11-23) after allowing seven runs (five earned) off seven hits with one strikeout in 2.0 innings. Courtney MacIntyre pitched 3.0 innings of relief allowing one earned run on five hits.

Merrill, Cyr, Casey Lopes and Olivia Smith all had a hit for the Eagles in the setback. Cyr added a double.

GAME 2: Bowdoin 11 Husson 0 in Five Innings
The Polar Bears scored all the runs they'd need in the first inning on route to an 11-0 victory in game two.  Rice went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and a double to lead the Polar Bears.

McCarthy (one RBI, two runs, double and triple), O'Toole (two RBI, two runs, and a homerun) and Lauren O'Shea (one run and a double) all had two hits for Bowdoin in the win.

Samantha Roy (3-2) earned the win inside the circle for Bowdoin after allowing just four hits while fanning nine with a walk over 5.0 innings.

Charged with the loss for the Eagles was MacIntyre (2-5) who went 3.1 innings inside the circle allowed 11 runs (eight earned) on 14 hits with one punch-out and Olivia Maynard allowed just one hit in 1.2 innings of relief while fanning two.

Nicole Andrade, Kylie Kennedy, Kristen Chipman and Brianna Bires accounted for all the Eagles hits in the setback.

The Eagles will close the out the regular season on Wednesday when they host Bates for a single non-conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Bowdoin plays a doubleheader at University of New England on Wednesday beginning at 3:30 p.m.
