Bates Men's second varsity eight outpaces MIT on the Charles

BOSTON -- The Bates men's rowing team had an eventful morning on the Charles River Saturday with a pair of narrow losses in a three-team regatta hosted by MIT and featuring the University of Rhode Island.

MIT edged Bates' varsity eight by 1.3 seconds, 6:06.7 to 6:08.0, over 2,000 meters, with URI taking third place (6:14.9).

Bates got back at the host Engineers in the second varsity eights, winning by open water 6:23.4 to 6:30.3.

Bates and URI squared off in a freshman/novice eights race, with the Rams edging the Bobcats by a fraction of a second, 6:31.8 to 6:32.
