Camden Public Library Events May 5 through May 19

Thursday, May 5

Charlie King is the featured performer at the Camden Library Coffeehouse, 7:00 pm; $7 admission. Charlie King is a legendary musical storyteller and political satirist who he has been at the heart of American folk music for half a century. “One of the finest singers and songwriters of our time,” said Pete Seeger.


Saturday, May 7

Gallery reception for the Camden Public Library’s Artist of the Month, Belfast artist Jon Byrer, 2:00 pm in the Jean Picker Room Gallery. Byrer’s “Marbled Landscapes” are bold, colorful, joyous, and fluid enamel oil paintings.


Sunday, May 8

“Cyber Sunday” free tech session, 2:00 pm at the Camden Public Library, the topic this week is “Facebook for Business.”


Monday, May 9

“Relieve Joint Pain With Bowen Therapy” 12:00 noon at the Camden Public Library, with Sherrie Clark, R.N., who will provide a hands-on demonstration of Bowen Work Therapy, presented by Destination Wellness Midcoast Maine.


Tuesday, May 10

Leer y charlar is Read and chat – entirely in Spanish! 1:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. All who are proficient in Spanish are welcome.  

Tuesday Book Club, 1:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. The book for this session is Wave by Sonali Deraniyagala, a memoir of her traumatic experience with the tsunami on Sri Lanka in 2004.

Camden Philosophical Society continues its discussion on the influence of the writings of Karl Marx. All who enjoy a good discussion are welcome, 4:00 pm at the Camden Public Library.

Liliane Willens presents “An Eyewitness Account: Japanese Occupation of Shanghai, the Chinese Civil War, and the Establishment of the People’s Republic of China,” 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library.


Thursday, May 12

 “Tick Talk” 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. May is Lyme Disease Awareness month, and the Library will again host Lyme disease specialist Dr. Bea Szantyr with a very informative look at ticks, the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi which causes Lyme disease, the incidence of Lyme disease in Maine, the difficulties of medical diagnosis, and steps you can take to protect yourself and your family.


Sunday, May 15

“Cyber Sunday” free tech session, 2:00 pm at the Camden Public Library, the topic this week is “Shopping Online.”


Tuesday, May 17

Songwriters Session, 6:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. Songwriters are welcome to join, this session is in preparation for performing new works at the Library Coffeehouse in June. Call 236-3440 for more information.


Thursday, May 19

“Boatbuilding on Mt. Desert Island” with author Laurie Schreiber, 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. Mount Desert Island possesses a rich and diverse history of boatbuilding.
