POULTNEY, Vt. – Despite a career-high seven goals
from Catie Brewster, the Green Mountain women's lacrosse team could not
come away with a victory on Senior Day as the Eagles fell to Husson
University, 16-11, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Eagles Game Field.
Husson (5-6, 4-3 NAC) received four goals from Cassidy Roderick and Mattie Russell and three goals apiece from Alissa Fallon and Amanda Deshaies. Fallon and Deshaies also contributed two and one assist, respectively. Rounding out the scoring for the visitors was Samara Oliver
who tallied a pair of markers. Russell not only led the team in
scoring, but recorded game-highs in groundballs (7) and draw controls
(7).
Aside from Brewsters scoring prowess, the hosts received a pair of
goals and assists from Megan
Scully and two markers from Maegan Laymon.
Laymon and Mariah Palmer led the Eagles on the ground with three
groundballs each, while Brewster picked up four draw controls.
After the teams traded two goals back and forth, the visitors used a
7-3 run through to the end of the opening half to take a four goal lead
into the break at 9-5.
Two goals by Roderick at different points in the second half gave
Husson its biggest lead by seven goals with her last goal coming at
the 9:11 mark.
Green Mountain would outscore the visitors 5-2 from that point
forward, but it was too little too late as Husson came away with the
victory.
Kaitlin Dolloff earned the win in net for Husson by making 10 saves, while Chelsea Wimble made 12 saves in the loss for GMC.
Green Mountain will finish up the regular season on Monday as it
awaits confirmation of its place in post season play. Husson will also
finish up the season on Monday with a battle against Maine Maritime at
4:30 p.m. at Boucher Field.
