Lockhart (East Greenwich, R.I.) entered the day with 120 hits in her career. Her three hits on Monday move her into a tie for third place on the all-time Bates career hits list. She is now one hit from a tie for second place and only four hits away from the all-time career record of 127 hits, which is held by Stacia Saniuk '09.
Game One: Bates 7, Maine-Farmington 1
First-year Kylie Martin (Poland, Maine) was brilliant on the mound, tossing a complete game five-hitter in a 7-1 Bates victory in game one of Monday's twin bill.
Martin (2-15) allowed a run in the first inning but settled down after that to blank the Beavers the rest
of the way.
Alison Hamilton singled to start the game. She stole second and advanced to third on a Bates error. Ashley Gleason singled her in for the lone Maine-Farmington run in game one.
A sacrifice bunt put runners at second and third with one away, but Martin got the next two hitters to pop out and fly out respectively to end the frame.
Bates threatened in each inning on offense before finally breaking through with a three-run fourth inning. Junior Abby Abbott (Rangeley, Maine) got the rally started with a single. She moved to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third when senior Melissa Paione (Auburn, Maine) reached on an error.
A walk loaded the bases for junior Maddie Inlow (Falmouth, Maine) and she drove in Abbott with a sacrifice fly to even the game at one.
Lockhart stepped to the plate and clobbered a triple to deep center field to drive in a pair of runs, giving Bates a 3-1 lead and giving Lockhart a share of the Bates single-season hits record.
Bates added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Paione singled to start the frame and senior Marina Barsoum (Newark, N.J.) drew her third walk of the game. Inlow doubled in Paione and Lockhart set the new Bates single-season hits record with a two-RBI single, plating Barsoum and Inlow to extend the Bates lead to 6-1.
After sophomore Tori Fitzgerald (Holliston, Mass.) singled, sophomore Paige Ahlholm (North Andover, Mass.) drove in Lockhart with an RBI fielder's choice.
Martin retired the final 11 batters she faced in order to shut down the Beavers and secure the victory for the Bobcats.
Lockhart went 2-3 with a run scored, a triple, four runs batted in and a walk in game one. Inlow went 1-3 with a run scored, a double, and two runs batted in. Fitzgerald went 2-4 and Barsoum reached base four times and scored two runs.
Game Two: Bates 12, Maine-Farmington 8
Trailing 8-3 headed to the bottom of the sixth, Bates exploded for nine runs to sink the Beavers in game two by a final score of 12-8.
The Bobcats tallied a total of 16 hits in the contest, matching the most they've accumulated in one game this season.
The nine-run sixth inning began with junior Jenney Abbott (Rangeley, Maine) reaching on an error. Paione singled and a Maine-Farmington error allowed Abbott to come all the way around to score while Paione advanced to second base. Barsoum singled and another error by the Beavers allowed Paione to score, cutting the deficit to 8-5.
Inlow followed with an RBI double to bring the Bobcats to within two runs. She advanced to third on a wild pitch. Lockhart drew a walk and promptly stole second, putting runners at second and third with nobody out and three runs already home. A Fitzgerald RBI grounder made the score 8-7 in favor of the Beavers. Ahlholm tied things up with a single, plating Lockhart.
Sophomore Maria Garbarino (Reading, Mass.) drew a walk and Abby Abbott drove in Ahlholm with a double, making it 9-8 in favor of Bates.
That's when Jenney Abbott put the icing on the cake with her first career home run, a three-run shot out to left field, extending the lead to 12-8.
First-year Mimi Crowley (Barnstable, Mass.) finished off the Beavers in the seventh for her first collegiate win in the circle.
Martin started game two for Bates and tossed a pair of scoreless innings.
But the Beavers put up four runs against reliever Sam Fellers '19 (Mendham, N.J.) in the top of the third.
Gleason and Kylie Cunningham greeted Fellers with back-to-back singles. A walk loaded the bases and Tasha DeRoche singled in a run to put the Beavers up 1-0. Two outs later, Hamilton cleared the bases with a three-RBI triple to extend the Maine-Farmington lead to 4-0.
But Bates rallied right away in the bottom of the third. Barsoum singled to start the frame and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Inlow singled in her in to cut the deficit to 4-1. One out later, a Maine-Farmington error allowed Inlow to score and Fitzgerald to reach first. Ahlholm singled, and then with two away, Abby Abbott singled in Fitzgerald to make it a one-run game.
UMF added an insurance run in the fifth and three more in the sixth thanks to run-scoring doubles from Gleason and Cunningham, putting them up 8-3.
But then in the bottom of the sixth, Bates plated nine to take the lead for good.
Barsoum finished her outstanding day at the plate with a 4-5 performance in game two. Inlow went 2-4 with two runs scored, a double and two driven in. Lockhart went 1-3 with a run scored, a double, and a walk. Ahlholm went 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Abby Abbott went 2-4 with a run scored, a double and two RBI's. Her twin sister Jenney Abbott finished game two 2-4 with two runs scored, a home run and three driven in. Paione tallied two hits and scored a run as well.
Bates is back in action Wednesday when they visit Husson. First pitch is set for 5:00.
