The Mules, now 12-13 overall and 3-4 in league play, will play
Trinity in two games Saturday (today) starting at noon. While Tufts University has
clinched the top seed in the NESCAC East, Colby is right in the mix for
the second playoff position. Bowdoin (4-5) is off this weekend and will
play host to Trinity next weekend. Trinity dropped to 15-10 and 3-4 in
the league.
Saul allowed just four hits, struck out three, and walked two. She
was able to get out of small jams in both the sixth and seventh innings.
With one out in the fifth inning, Tori Sansone ’16 doubled to get
Colby going. Skylar Labbe ’18 singled to push Sansone to third base,
while Labbe advanced to second on the throw. Schatz followed with
Colby’s third straight hit with her triple.
The Mules scored a lone run in the third inning when Sam Rizzo ’19
led off with a double. Katie McLaughlin ’17 followed with a sacrifice to
push Rizzo to third. After an out, Sansone doubled to drive in the
first run.
Saul had her shutout broken up in the bottom of the fourth inning.
After getting the first out of the inning, Saul gave up a home run to
Trinity catcher Nicole Towner.
Sansone, Rizzo, and Grace Farnkoff ’17 all had two hits for the Mules.
Rachael Smith worked a complete game for Trinity, striking out four and walking four.
