Bates College Women's track places third out of eight teams at Aloha Relays

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates women's track and field team won three events and finished third out of eight teams Saturday at Bowdoin's annual Aloha Relays.

Bates scored 125 points, trailing host Bowdoin (171) and Southern Maine (165) in the final count. Colby was fourth (90), followed by Wellesley (57.5), Husson (31.5), Mount HOlyoke (23) and UMaine-Farmington (4).

Bates won the 4x100 relay race with the second-fastest time in team history, 48.70 seconds, on the legs of sophomore Sally Ceesay (Bronx, N.Y.), junior Allison Hill (Brunswick, Maine), junior Claire Markonic (Millerton, N.Y.) and senior captain Alexis Dickinson (Brunswick, Maine).

Junior Jessica Wilson (Cumberland, Maine) won the 1,500 meters in a career-best time of 4:39.14,
moving into sole possession of fifth place on Bates' all-time performance list in the event. Junior Sadie James (Avon, Maine) placed fifth (4:51.32) and sophomore Katherine Cook (South Burlington, Vt.) placed sixth (4:51.77).

First-year Ayden Eickhoff (Corvallis, Mont.) captured first place in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 1:00.28.

Other scoring (top-six) performances for the Bobcats included:
  • Hill finished second in the 100-meter dash with a finals time of 12.84 seconds. She moved into seventh place on Bates' all-time performance list in the event with her preliminary time of 12.83 seconds.
  • First-year Katie Hughes (Pittsfield, Maine) placed second in the shot put (38-0) and fourth in the discus (108-4).
  • Ceesay finished second in the triple jump (37-7.75).
  • Junior Elyse Rubchinuk (Newington, N.H.) placed second in the javelin throw (121-9).
  • Sophomore Lindsey Beauregard (Hollis, N.H.) placed second in the two-day heptathlon, with 3,761 points.
  • Senior Isabelle Unger (Charlotte, Vt.) finished third in the 800-meter run in 2:20.08, slipping into 10th place on Bates' all-time performance list in the event. First-year Sarah Rothmann (Andover, Mass.) placed fourth (2:21.03).
  • Sophomore Srishti Sunil (Bangalore, India) finished third in the high jump (5-0.25). She also moved into a tie for eighth place on Bates' top 10 all-time performance list in the 100 meters with her prelim time of 12.85 seconds. 
  • Senior Katharine Wick (Hillsborough, Calif.) placed third in the pole vault (9-6.25).
  • Dickinson placed fourth in the 200 meters with a career-best time of 25.71 seconds, jumping from seventh to fourth place on Bates' all-time performance list.
  • First-year Katie Gonzalez (San Gabriel, Calif.) took fourth place in the hammer throw (143-11).
  • Senior Julia Fisher (Philadelphia, Pa.) took fifth place in the 5,000 meters (19:22.07), while sophomore Mary Szatkowski (Buxton, Maine) took sixth (19:30.26).
  • Senior Elena Schroeder (Clinton, Conn.) placed sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:08.00).
Bates will compete at the NESCAC Championships next Saturday, beginning at 9am at Amherst College. The Bobcats placed fourth at the meet a year ago.
