The 12th-ranked Polar Bears improve to 11-3 on the season while the Saints fall to 7-8. Despite playing in non-conference action on Saturday, due to results from around the league, Bowdoin has clinched a home NESCAC quarterfinal for Saturday, April 30.
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin quickly opened a four-goal, first-quarter lead thanks to a dominant opening period. Senior defenseman Billy Valle sparked the game-opening run as the Polar Bears held a 4-0 lead after 10 minutes of play
- Emmanuel locked the Polar Bears down defensively for the rest of the first half, allowing just one more goal, but could only find the back of the net once - courtesy of a Tony Cibelli goal 3:33 before intermission as Bowdoin owned a 5-1 edge at the break
- After Emmanuel trimmed the lead to 5-2 early in the third quarter, Bowdoin rolled off the game-deciding run, scoring five of the next six goals to take a 10-3 lead after three quarters
- Brett Kujala and Matthew Crowell each scored twice in the run as Bowdoin scored four more times in the fourth quarter to put the contest on ice
- Kujala led all players with four goals and one assist while Crowell added two goals and an assist.
- Clayton Wright assisted on three goals while Shawn Daly had a score and two helpers
- Tony Cibelli led Emmanuel with two goals
- Peter Mumford made nine stops in 52:45 of action before giving way to John Young, who stopped one shot in the final 7:15
- Emmanuel's Austin Rosenberg was peppered all day with shots and made 11 saves in the loss for the Saints
- Sam Carlin was dominant on the face-off dot, winning 15 of 16 draws to key the Polar Bear attack
- Samuel Hodgson had two caused turnovers and three ground balls defensively for Bowdoin
- Pat Heffernan led Emmanuel with three caused turnovers and two ground balls
- The Polar Bears will close out their regular season with a road contest at Tufts on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
- Emmanuel will return to Maine on Wednesday afternoon for a conference game at St. Joseph's at 4:00 p.m.
