The
Belfast Rotary Club is hosting its seventh annual Belfast Harbor Fest
from August 19-21, 2016. Headlining the event is Belfast’s 10th
National Boat Building Challenge. There are fun activities and
exhibits for the whole family and admission is free for all other
than the Friday night concert.
Belfast
Harbor Fest weekend kicks off Friday, August 19, rain or shine -with
a Launch Party. The Party fills a huge tent on Steamboat Landing at
the foot of Commercial Street. Gates open at 6 pm with live music
from 7 pm to midnight.
Saturday
morning, August 20. from 7:30 to 10:30 am there will be a blueberry
pancake and sausage breakfast inside the Boathouse. Bug Run 5K
Runners eat for FREE!
Bug
Run/Walk participants can preregister at active.com; on race day
registration will be open from 7:30-8:15 am in parking lot at Union
and Miller Streets. Race starts at 8:30 am.
The
National Boatbuilding Challenge will be the main event on Saturday.
Two person teams compete for cash prizes in this three-part event.
First the team has to complete building a 12-foot skiff in under four
hours. Then the boat is judged for craftsmanship and completeness.
The final challenge is the team has to put their boat in the water
and each member was to row the boat in a 50-yard relay race. All
materials and plans are provided and the team provides their own
