Bates Erbafina and Voccola pick up wins in singles for women's tennis in 7-2 loss to No. 39 Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- The No. 39 nationally ranked Babson College women's tennis program swept doubles to get the early lead and held on for a 7-2 win over Bates on Thursday.

At No. 1 doubles, junior Elizabeth Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) and first-year Bella Stone (Concord, Mass.) stayed within striking distance of Babson's Yagmur Akgul and Jenny Quenard before falling 8-6. Babson proceeded to win 8-4 at No. 2 doubles and 8-2 at No. 3 doubles to take a 3-0 lead.
The Bobcats picked up a pair of wins in singles.

Erbafina took down Babson's Eleni Gianelos at No. 2 singles in straight sets: 6-0, 6-3.

Junior Olivia Voccola (Falmouth, Maine) also emerged victorious in singles, defeating Babson's Chloe Brandt by a count of 6-2, 6-4.

Two other singles matches went three sets. Stone won the first set against Quenard 6-1 at No. 3 singles before dropping the next two sets. Meanwhile junior Kate Rosenthal (Pittsburgh, Pa.) also took her opponent to three sets by winning set two 7-6 at No. 4 singles.

The Bobcats wrap up their 2016 regular season on Sunday when they host Williams at 10:00 a.m.
