WATERVILLE, Maine - Husson University men's outdoor track and field
competed in the annual State of Maine Outdoor Track and Field
Championships held at Colby College on Saturday and finished sixth
overall with five points.
Bates College edged rival Bowdoin College for the team title,
222-200. Southern Maine was third scoring 97 points, Colby College was
fourth with 77 and UMaine-Farmington was fifth with 13 points.
Husson had four athletes set a combined seven school records in the state championship meet.
Miguel Caballero
highlighted the meet with three school records in the 100 and 200 meter
dash and
long jump. Caballero took eighth in the long jump with a jump
of 6.23m, ran an 11.64 in the 100 good enough for 15th and placed 11th
in the 200 with a 23.56.
Joe Minard finished 13th in the hammer throw with a new school record throw of 29.36m, while Francesco Wright
ran a 17.94 in the 110 meter hurdles and a 1:04.49 in the 400 meter
hurdles for new school records in both events. He placed 9th in the 400
and 10th in the 110.
Nick Young finished seventh in the 400 meter dash in school record time of 53.46.
Other Eagles who finished in the top 10 were Josh Wheeler in the pole vault (3.55m), and high jump (1.73m), Wright in the pole vault (3.10m), William Richard in the high jump (1.73m), and 400 meter dash (54.94), Owen Freeman in the javelin (42.71m), Minard in the shot put (10.98m), Andrew Balsamo in the 1550 meter run (4:21.13), Edward Miner in the 400 meter dash (58.75).
The Eagles 4x100 meter relay took fourth with a time of 45.65.
The Eagles will return to action with an appearance in the 2016 North Atlantic Conference Championship, which will be hosted by Colby College on Sunday, May 1st.
