Brett Chappell lead Maine hitters today with two RBI's, Connor Johnson earned his second win of the season improving to 2-2.
Thomas opened with the opening run in the top of the first, Zach Mathieu reached by fielder's choice and scored Anree Benitez to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.
Maine responded in the bottom half of the inning, Colin Ridley doubled to center scoring Danny
Casals to tie it at 1-1. Later in the inning, Brenden Geary singled to left center scoring Ridley and giving Maine a 2-1 edge.
In the bottom of the third, Brett Chappell doubled to left center driving in two runs and giving the Black Bears a 4-1 lead.
Thomas cut into the Maine lead in the top of the sixth, Tristan Pena hit an infield single that scored one run and brought the score to 4-2.
In the top of the seventh, Thomas' Zach Mathieu reached base on a fielder's choice, on the play an errant throw scored one run to trim Maine's lead, 4-3. The Terriers tied the game after Nik Beeson hit into a double play that allowed the runner on third to score, 4-4.
Maine responded in the bottom of the eighth with four runs on two hits and three Thomas errors. Brenden Geary singled through the right side of the infield scoring one, giving Maine a 5-4 edge. Jake Osborne later in the inning reached base via fielder's choice and giving Maine a two run cushion, 6-4. Caleb Kerbs hit a sacrifice fly to left field adding to Maine's margin, 7-4. Jeremy Pena gave Maine their final run of the inning off of a sacrifice fly hit to center increasing Maine's lead, 8-4.
Nick Silva came on in the ninth to retire the Terriers in order and preserve the win.
The Black Bears return to action this weekend as they host America East opponent UMBC for a three game series. Saturday includes a double header that begins at 1:00 p.m. and the series concludes Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Kids under the age of 17 receive free admission and Adult tickets are $6.
