Thomas Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Contest to Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. --- The Thomas College women's lacrosse team took to the road for the first time in two weeks, falling 10-3 at Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday.

Thomas (2-6, 2-3 NAC) scored the game's first goal as sophomore Samantha Greenlaw (Windham, Maine / Windham) netted an unassisted goal less than four minutes in.

The Chargers (5-5, 4-1 NAC) scored the next six goals as Caitlyn Whearty and Sara Berry scored twice each accompanied by lone tallies from Nicole Lavigne and Molly Mulcahy. The final three goals came in the final 45 seconds of the half with Mulcahy's tally coming with just one second left on the clock.

Senior Erin Nelligan (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole) cut the lead to four goals after converting a
free-position shot 2:12 into the second half, but the Terriers gave the goal right back 29 seconds later as Mulcahy put home a free-position shot of her own to give Colby-Sawyer the 7-2 edge.

Junior Sophia LaVallee (Pawling, N.Y. / Pawling) tallied an unassisted goal with 18:59 to play to again get the Terriers within four goals, but Colby-Sawyer's Bailey Starr answered 39 seconds later off an assist from Mulcahy. The Chargers added two more goals in the final nine minutes to set to close out the game.

Reigning NAC Defensive Player of the Week Meghan Castellano recorded the win for CSC, needing to make just two saves.

Senior Brittany Fox (Lovell, Maine / Fryeburg Academy) made 13 saves in goal for Thomas.
The Chargers held a 29-18 advantage in ground balls, controlled 11 of 14 draws and were successful on five of eight clear attempts. Colby-Sawyer also had a 35-13 advantage in shots.
The Terriers were 8-of-13 on clear attempts.

Fox, Greenlaw, LaVallee and sophomore Jordyn Taylor (Waldorf, Md. / North Point) had three ground balls each, while freshman Cassidy West (Vassalboro, Maine / Erskine Academy) accounted for three of Thomas' six caused turnovers.

Lavigne corralled six ground balls while Mulcahy, Berry and Whearty snagged four each. Lavigne also had a game-high five caused turnovers, while Starr controlled five draws.

The Terriers are now off until Saturday, April 16, when they celebrate Senior Day prior to a 1 p.m. contest with Green Mountain.
