BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The No. 9 nationally ranked Bates women's lacrosse team reached the 10-win plateau for the first time since 1992, rolling to a 17-6 victory at Bowdoin Wednesday night in a game that was shortened due to snow.

It was Bates' (10-1, 5-1 NESCAC) fourth straight win and its first victory over the rival Polar Bears (4-6, 0-6 NESCAC) since 2008.

Bates took an early lead thanks to goals from four different players in a 4-0 run to open the contest. Sophomore Allison Dewey (Vergennes, Vt.) led off the scoring on an assist by senior Alex Briody (North Kingstown, R.I.) in the first minute. Sophomore Camille Belletete (Jaffrey, N.H.) and senior Moriah Greenstein (Glenmont, N.Y.) both scored unassisted in the eighth minute, and junior Drew Barry (Portland, Maine) tallied with 16:43 left in the first.

Bowdoin got two back before the Bobcats rolled off four more, including two from senior Emma
Brinkman (Rye, N.Y.) to extend the lead to 8-2.

Mettler Growney scored twice before the half for the Polar Bears as the hosts trimmed the lead to 9-4 at the break.

After Dewey opened the second half with a goal for Bates, Bowdoin's Lindsay Picard and Megan O'Connor scored consecutive goals to make it a competitive 10-6 contest with 20:42 to go.

But as the field conditions quickly deteriorated, the Bobcats pulled away, scoring seven straight goals to pull away, including four from Greenstein, who tied her career high for the third time this season with five goals, in addition to one assist.

Dewey and Belletete had three goals each while junior Kaileigh Maguire (Sudbury, Mass.) had a game-best seven draw controls for the Bobcats.

Bowdoin was paced by three goals from Mettler Growney.

Senior Hannah Jeffrey (Greenwich, Conn.) stopped 10 shots for the Bobcats while Kayli Weiss saw the majority of time for Bowdoin, stopping six shots.

Bates held a 25-20 edge in shots and 16-10 lead in draw controls in the match. Bates will host No. 3 Middlebury at noon on Saturday.
