Mariners Stumble Against Monks

PORTLAND, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fell to Saint Joseph's College of Maine 14-0, on Wednesday night in non-conference action.

The Monks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first five minutes of play, and scored a total of 11 goals in the first half. Saint Joseph's added three goals in the second half to claim in the shutout.

Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) recorded 10 saves in almost 42 minutes in net, while Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) stopped two shots in 18 minutes in goal for the Mariners. Wilson led the Mariners with three ground balls and both Briana Obshatkin (Dedham, Mass.) and Julia Dillon (Norway, Maine) scooped up two ground balls each. Haley Eckert (Harrington, Maine), Sarah Nevin (Dewitt, N.Y.) and Mary Shea (Brownfield, Maine) each caused a turnover.

Kat Gadbois and Elyse Caiazzo led the Monks with four goals apiece, Elizabeth Elcock added a pair of goals and Kayla Kelly, Meaghan Williams, Kelsey Dumond and Jackie Wilson each tallied a goal for Saint Joseph's. Gadbois led the Monks with a game-high four caused turnovers, and Gadbois and Wilson each scooped up seven ground balls.

The Mariners fall to 0-8 on the season, while the Monks improve to 8-2. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday against NAC opponent Johnson State at 3:30 p.m. on Ritchie Field.
