NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Dean Boodakian (Burlington, Mass.) scored a 7-5, 6-3 win over sophomore Samuel Holland
(Falmouth, Maine) at fourth singles to secure the pivotal fifth point
as the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers narrowly defeated the University of
Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference tennis match Wednesday
afternoon at the Kelsey Courts.
The Chargers led 2-1 after the doubles points. Southern Maine senior Tyler Adams (Buxton,
Maine/Bonny Eagle) and junior Kyle Curley (Gorham, Maine) notched the Huskies' lone point in doubles action with an 8-4 win at first doubles over CSC sophomore Gustav Jigrup (Vastra Frolunda, Sweden) and senior Shawn Bissonette (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Saranac).
In singles action, Charger sophomores Ross Kenney (Hampton Falls, N.H./Winnacunett) and Ryan Broderick (Londonderry, N.H.) won at fifth and sixth singles respectively to give Colby-Sawyer a commanding 4-1 lead, before Adams bounced Jigrup 6-0, 6-3 at first singles to make it 4-2 in favor of CSC. Adams' win over Jigrup marked his 35th consecutive singles victory, and improved his 2016 record to 7-0. With the Huskies leadin at second singles and in a close match in third singles, Boodakian was able to break away from Holland to deliver the match for the Chargers.
In upcoming action, Southern Maine hosts Rhode Island College in a Little East Conference match this Saturday (1:00 p.m.). The Huskies are 3-0 in the Little East with two matches remaining. Colby-Sawyer hosts Castleton University on Saturday (1:00 p.m.)
