Mules Defeat Mariners

CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer fell 2-0 to Colby College on Tuesday night, at Ritchie Field in non-conference action.

The first half proved to be an extremely physical battle, as both teams recorded four shots but neither found the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of play.

The Mules struck quickly in the second half to jump out to an 1-0 lead, when Brandon Fahlberg found Kyle Douglas on a cross. Douglas placed the ball just past the outstretched Mariner keeper, Marshall Spear (Rockport, Maine).

Later in the second half, Dan Vogel found Jeff Rosenberg in front of the net to extend the Colby lead to 2-0.

Spear was strong in net, stopping five shots in the loss; while John Pappas recorded one save in the victory for the Mules. Kyle Haslam (Lamoine, Maine) led the offense for Maine Maritime with three shots.

The Mariners will return to action when they travel to Husson University to take on Castleton on Friday night and Husson on Saturday, in non-conference matchups.
