VB: Husson loses to Southern Maine, 3-0‏

BANGOR, Maine - Southern Maine defeated Husson in three games by scores of 25-16, 25-12 and 25-14 on Tuesday evening inside Newman Gymnasium.
Husson (3-3) tied game one at point five when Sarah Wilson generated one of her two kills on the night, but Southern Maine (3-2) rallied with five straight points to take open up the margin. A Bailey Cote block of a Robbi Termentozzi attack brought the Eagles within two at 13-11, but three straight Huskey points pushed the difference back to five and allowed the visitors to pull away down the stretch. A Jess Williamson service ace ended the game.
Southern Maine scored six of the first seven points in game two to jump ahead early. A 5-0 spurt midway through the set, including two kills by Williamson, put the Huskies in front 12-3. Husson later closed within five after an attack error by Karina Zellou made the score 14-9, but the home team would get no closer. Southern Maine tallied 11 of the final 14 points in the set to lead the match by two games.
The Eagles started game three strong, as back-to-back service aces by Cote put coach Jodie Fairbank's team ahead 5-2. An Emma Plouffe made the score 6-5 in favor of Husson, but the Huskies redled off eight consecutive points to jump ahead for good. Williamson totaled four of her match-high 19 kills during the run. Fairbank's squad trimmed the margin to five on three occasions, the last coming at 15-10 following a Demi Ruder service error, but Southern Maine responded by scoring four of the next five points and later six straight to end the match.
Williamson recorded a double-double with 19 kills and 16 digs. Megan Nilson also had a double-double with 12 digs and 17 assists. Mo Raymond picked up eight kills in the win. Ruder had 17 digs. Nicole Schmitz dished out 17 assists.
Lindsay Chapman and Kristen Atwood each had four kills for Husson. Wilson, the defending NAC Defensive Player of the Week, pumped in 17 digs to take sole possession of 13th place all-time in school history with 490, while Chapman had 10 on Tuesday and now has 493 in her career.
