MSOC: Eagles lose to #22 Wheaton (Mass.), 4-1‏

NORTON, Massachusetts - The #22 Wheaton College men's soccer team defeated Husson, 4-1, in a non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at Keefe Field.

Wheaton(1-2) applied pressure out of the gate, earning back-to-back-to-back corner kicks just four minutes into the contest. One minute later Amara Sesay found the back of the net on a cross from just outside the box from Louis Chavez.

Chavez would go on to earn a goal of his own in the 12th minute, putting the Lyons up 2-0. The play originated with Noah Kossoff dispossessing Husson (1-2) at the top of the 18-yard box. Kossoff made his way up the right side of the field before slotting it into Chavez, who nailed his shot far post.

The Eagles cut the deficit to a goal in the 20th minute courtesy of a penalty kick taken by Phil Frost.

The Lyons made it 3-1 just three minutes into the second half, this time with Chavez repaying the favor to Kossoff. Taking a corner for Wheaton, Chavez put the ball on Kossoff's head where he then redirected the ball to the near post.

Kossoff picked up his second goal of the game in the 65th minute. Sesay picked up the assist after firing a shot from point blank range.

Wheaton outshot Husson an astounding 31-5, while having a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks. James Bailey picked up the complete game win in his first start of the season for Wheaton, coming up with three saves. Steven Paquette made ten saves in net for Husson.

"Much like the Babson game we played a very very good team today and Wheaton went up two nail the guys showed tremendous character to battle back to score a goal to get back to 2-1 at half and started to play a bit but then in the second half we ended up giving up an additional two goals and losing four to one so the guys are disappointed, but I think we learned a lot," Eagles coach Jeff Gettler said. "This is what we needed at this point in the season, and I was very proud of the guys on the weekend and today."

Husson returns to action on Friday, September 11 when the host the University of Southern Maine at 7:30pm on day one of the 4th Annual Husson University Eagles Challenge Cup.
