Antoine Grace & Jake Peavey Named 2021-22 Huskies’ Wrestling Captains

GORHAM, Maine – Seniors Antoine Grace (Queensbury, N.Y.) and Jake Peavey (South China, Maine/Erskine Academy) have been named captains of the 2021-2022 University of Southern Maine Huskies wrestling team.  Both four-year members of the squad, veteran head coach Mike Morin ’10 made the announcement as the Huskies prepare for their season-opening dual meet at Bridgewater State University on Saturday (11:00 am).

“Antoine and Jake are strong leaders for our program,” said Morin. “They work hard

in the classroom, on the mat in practice and are both active in the community.  As wrestlers they compete at a high level and can be relied upon to do the little things right to prepare themselves to be successful.  As we return to competition, these are two guys that will keep their teammates focused and driven.”

Grace, a two-sport student-athlete as a member of the Huskies track & field program, enters the season ranked eighth in the first (November 1) New England Wrestling Association Individual Ranking at 125 pounds.  In abbreviated 2020-21 season, Grace picked up a pair of wins by fall at 125 pounds, including a 1:30 pin over Rhode Island College’s Christopher Lavallee and pin over New England College’s Edgar Feliciano. Last year’s Little East Conference Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, Grace has patiently waited behind former two-time NCAA All-American Pete Del Gallo.  A leader off of the mat as well, Grace is an officer in the Huskies’ Student-Athlete Diversity, Inclusion & Equity (SADIE) Committee, and attended the 2021 Northeast Black Student-Athlete Summitt earlier this semester.

A 2021 National Wrestling Coaches’ Association (NWCA) Division III Scholar All-American, Peavey enters this season ranked third at 285 pounds in the first individual rankings presented by NEWA.  A 2019-2020 All-NEWA honorable mention pick, Peavey earned NCAA Division III All-Region honors placing sixth at 285 pounds at the regional championship. A three-time NWCA Scholar All-American, Peavey is a three-time William B. Wise Scholar Athlete.
