Thomas's LaVallee Scores Three in Loss at Husson

BANGOR, Maine --- The Thomas College women's lacrosse team fell to Husson University, 11-5, in a North Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse match Wednesday afternoon at Boucher Field.

Junior Sophia LaVallee (Pawling, N.Y. / Pawling) tallied three second-half goals and sophomore Samantha Greenlaw (Windham, Maine / Windham) had two goals and two assists to lead Thomas (2-8, 2-5 NAC).

Husson (4-6, 3-3 NAC) was led by three goals each from Alissa Fallon, Mattie Russell and Amanda Deshaies.

The Eagles scored four times in a span of 102 seconds to take a 4-0 lead less than four minutes in.
Samara Oliver kicked off the scoring at the 27:53 mark and was followed by tallies from Fallon, Russell and Brooke Quirion. Husson added goals from Deshaies and Fallon later in the half to lead 6-0 at the break.

The Terriers got on the board just 38 second into the second half as Greenlaw scored an unassisted goal.

Husson scored four unanswered goals to extend the lead to 10-1.

LaVallee cut the lead to 10-2 with an unassisted goal with 13:26 to play, then added a second tally off a Greenlaw assist just 22 seconds later.

Greenlaw scored her second goal of the game with 2:36 to play, then assisted on LaVallee's third of the game with just 44 seconds remaining to cut the score to 10-5.

Russell scored her third of the game in the game's waning seconds to make it an 11-5 final score.
Greenlaw finished with a team-high nine shots - six on goal - with six ground balls and one forced turnover. LaVallee scooped up three ground balls and controlled three draws.

Senior Crystal Leavitt (Phippsburg, Maine / Morse) grabbed eight ground balls and caused two turnovers, while fellow senior Erin Nelligan (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole) took eight shots, controlled seven draws, scooped up six ground balls and caused three turnovers.

Senior Brittany Fox (Lovell, Maine / Fryeburg Academy) made 14 saves in goal, while also picking up seven ground balls.

Deshaies finished with 12 shots overall - 10 on goal - while scooping seven ground balls, controlling two draws and causing four turnovers.

Thomas held a 14-12 advantage in saves, led 43-42 in ground balls and 10-7 in draw controls. Each school had 17 clears, while Husson had a 31-25 edge in shots.

The Terriers wrap up the regular season on Monday at UMaine-Farmington. The game is a must-win for Thomas, which is currently sitting on the outside looking in regarding the NAC Tournament.
