WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Thomas College men's
tennis team won four singles matches en route to a 5-4 North Atlantic
Conference (NAC) win over Castleton University on Saturday at Harold
Alfond Athletic Center.
The Spartans (6-1, 1-1 NAC) took a 2-1 edge after doubles after
winning at the number one and number two positions. Down 7-6 at first
doubles, Seth Marcil and Kevin Rosset won three straight games to defeat
senior Tyler Small (Surry, Maine / Ellsworth) and sophomore Zachary Disch (Waterville, Maine / Waterville), 9-7. At second doubles, freshmen Ross Munn (Brunswick, Maine / Brunswick) and Nathan Philbrook (Rockland, Maine / Oceanside) fell to Soren Pelz-Walsh and Quentin Barthe, 8-3.
The Terriers (4-7, 2-1 NAC) picked up their lone doubles victory when Joseph Greco (Greene, Maine / St. Dominic Academy) and senior Caleb Mora (Surry, Maine / Ellsworth) topped Ryan Mulder and Trevor Hanna by an 8-5 score.
Thomas grabbed a 4-2 lead as Small, Disch and Philbrook picked up straight-set wins at first, second and fifth singles.
Greco clinched the win for the Terriers with a 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 win over Mulder at sixth singles.
Castleton picked up wins at third and fourth singles to close out the
match. Pelz-Walsh defeated Mora, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 at the third spot and
Barthe topped Munn, 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (5), at the fourth spot.
